The College of Maasin takes seriously the incident that occurred during last nightβs basketball game involving our team. The College is currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident and will take appropriate actions based on the facts established and in accordance with its policies and institutional standards.
We wish to make it unequivocally clear that the College does not condone or tolerate violence, physical aggression, or any form of unsportsmanlike conduct, particularly in activities involving our students. Participation in athletics is not solely about competition; it is an important part of student development and an opportunity to cultivate discipline, respect, character, and sportsmanship. Any act of violence is inconsistent with these values and has no place in student athletics.
At the same time, we recognize that maintaining the integrity and positive atmosphere of student competitions is a shared responsibility. Coaches, players, officials, and all other individuals involved in the game are expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, fairness, respect, and restraint. Game officials, in particular, are entrusted with an important responsibility in ensuring that competitions are conducted fairly and professionally, and their decisions and conduct can significantly influence the experience and atmosphere of student-athletes.
The College will continue to review the matter carefully and objectively and will address any concerns involving its representatives through the appropriate institutional processes. We likewise respect the authority, procedures, and decisions of the organizers and governing bodies of the City Meet.
The College of Maasin remains committed to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, discipline, respect, and responsible conduct among our students, coaches, and representatives in every competition in which we participate. We believe that athletics should ultimately serve its greater purpose: to develop not only skilled athletes, but also responsible, disciplined, and respectful individuals.
