𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞, 𝐖𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞

For a moment, the competition is quiet.

The athletes who will soon stand on opposite sides of the court sit together. The teams that will spend the next few days fighting for points share the same space. There are no winners yet, no losers, no rankings—only people gathered in prayer.

And perhaps that is the point.

Intramurals has a way of dividing us into teams. We wear different colors, cheer for different names, and defend every point as though the scoreboard carries the weight of the world. But before the games begin, the Mass reminds us of something competition can easily make us forget: we were one community before we became opponents.

Victory gives us a reason to compete, but it should never become the reason we forget one another.

As the Mass continues, we are given a moment to look beyond the game. To understand that a person across the court is not merely an opponent to defeat, but another student carrying the same hopes, fears, and excitement that we do.

Soon, the silence will disappear. The cheers will rise. Someone will win, someone will lose, and the scoreboard will decide the result.

But here, before all of that, we are reminded of something the scoreboard cannot measure:

We may compete against each other, but we do not have to become divided by competition.

And perhaps that is the best way to begin the games—not by asking who will win, but by remembering why we are playing together in the first place.

Today, we celebrate not only your birthday, but also the person who continues to lead, serve, and make a difference in his own way. Being a Governor comes with responsibilities and challenges, but you have shown that true leadership is not always about being in front it is also about being there when your department and fellow students need you.

To the BSCRIM Department, thank you for being a leader who represents your department with pride and dedication. Your efforts, presence, and willingness to serve are things that your fellow Criminology students can look up to.

And from your FCSO and FAMCSO family, thank you for being part of the journey. Every contribution, every effort, and even the simple moments shared with the organization become part of what makes our family stronger. We truly appreciate having you with us.

As you celebrate another year of life, may you never lose the passion that brought you into leadership. Keep believing in yourself, keep serving with sincerity, and remember that the impact of a good leader is often seen in the people he inspires along the way.
