๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿซต๐Ÿป

July 15, 2026 โ€” The Liberal Arts and Education Department held its first Religious Convocation of the 2026โ€“2027 academic year at the MI-CM Gymnasiumโ€”a hands-on gathering that brought students from different programs together around faith, service, and compassion.

The program opened with a solemn procession of the department officers, the Program Head, the guest speaker, and the school chaplain, setting a reverent atmosphere for the celebration. Serving as the liturgists of the convocation were Ms. Bea Anne Espoltero, BSED 4-English Representative, and Mr. Seif Bandibas, AB Political Science 1 Representative, who guided the flow of the convocation.

Carrying the theme โ€œWalking with God, Journeying with the Anawinโ€ and the sub-theme โ€œWalking with Rural and Working Communities, Justice for Farmers and Workersโ€, which invited the students to develop their faith and to reflect on the sacrifices made by farmers and workers who contribute to society on a daily basis.

In her inspiring message, Ma'am Honey M. Castillo reminded everyone to appreciate the hardworking people behind the food we eat and the comfort we enjoy. She also explained what LAED meant - L โ€“ Love Mercy, A โ€“ Act Justly, E โ€“ Embrace Humility, D โ€“ Draw Near to God, and asked the students to apply these to their lives.

Adding to the solemnity of the celebration, the Selah Choir rendered a heartfelt offertory song that enriched the spiritual atmosphere of the gathering.

The program ended with a closing prayer and benediction led by Pastor Renee Rose Isaac, leaving students inspired to continue walking with God and serving others with love, justice, and humility.

The Religious Convocation was not only an end to yet another school assembly, but an awakening of students' purpose. They left the gymnasium with words of encouragement and most importantly, a renewed sense of duty to protect the hands that feed the communities and the people whose hard work constructs society. They were called to โ€œlove mercy, act justly, embrace humility, and draw near to Godโ€ and they were challenged to demonstrate these values in the day-to-day through simple acts of kindness, unwavering solidarity and true service.

Come together with the Liberal Arts and Education Department for our Religious Convocation 2026: โ€œWalking with Jesus: Journeying with the anawim.โ€ Together weโ€™ll center our community on faith rooted in solidarity, reflecting on what it means to walk alongside the anawimโ€”the poor, marginalized, and humbleโ€”especially those who till the soil and power the factories.

Reflections, prayers, and calls to action will be oriented towards our sub-theme, โ€œWalking with Rural and Working Communities: Justice for Farmers and Workers,โ€ and will bridge Gospel compassion with concrete acts of solidarity toward agricultural and working communities.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend the MIโ€“CM Alumni Gymnasium meeting on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 at 4:00 PM. Be ready to listen, pray and agree to walk alongside those who tend our nation's farms and fields.

The agenda featured items for the Department Religious Convocation set for Wednesday. Department President Vyje Athena S. Meking gave updates on event arrangements and assigned tasks to ensure readiness in all areas. The planned Department Parents Orientation was also addressed; its scheduling will depend on the availability of the Program Head. Originally, a Department Assembly was to follow the General Assembly for Parents on July 11, 2026, but that assembly will not take place due to the Program Headโ€™s travel commitments.

Other departmental matters were brought up for discussion and appropriately recorded for future action of the department.

The First General Assembly for the Liberal Arts and Education Department (LAED) for the academic year 2026โ€“2027 was held on July 3rd at the MIโ€‘CM Alumni Gym. Studentsโ€”new freshmen and familiar returning facesโ€”filled the gym with a lively mix of curiosity and excitement. The event buzzed with anticipation as everyone renewed their commitment to learning and campus life, ready to begin another year of academic growth and student engagement.

The event was kicked off by the emcee, Department Auditor Mikaella Nicole A. Orit, who welcomed the students and introduced the program. BSED 3-English representative Sherwin O. Salar delivered the prayer, setting the scene for the solemn and purposeful atmosphere. Following the invocation, Bea Anne D. Espoltero, representative of BSED 4-English, led the assembly in the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, officially opening the dayโ€™s proceedings.

In the program's opening address, President of the Department Vyje Athena S. Meking welcomed students and highlighted the importance of exercise of participation, leadership, and collaboration to the life of the department. She encouraged students to take the opportunities ahead and actively participate in community building of the academic environment.

The highlight of the assembly was when Dr. Cristean P. Sumelheg being the department program head, walked the students through the policies, rules and regulations governing the department life. It was also an opportunity for Dr. Sumelheg introduced the department officers, encouraging the students to reach out to them for guidance and support.

To increase fiscal transparency, Department Treasurer Joana T. Caube presented a thorough rundown of needed contributions and the fees that will go in these coming fiscal years. Following the financial briefing, the department leadership issued an intra-departmental resolution that would spell out the repercussions of not attending officially and the departmentโ€™s contributions would not be refundable. The measure was opened for a student vote, reinforcing procedural legitimacy and the departmentโ€™s emphasis on collaborative governance.

During this assembly, students were being reminded of their involvement outside of the classroom through announcements on each organisation's engagement in the community. Calls for new members for the department choir and dance troupe were made, encouraging students to showcase talents and take an active role in departmental life.

The Program culminated with the singing of The College of Maasin Hymn. Afterwards, each program organization conducted its respective assembly to elect a new set of officers, discuss organizational plans and concerns for the academic year, and formally welcome first-year students into their respective academic communities.

The First General Assembly was not just an orientation and organizational meeting, but it was a way of emphasizing the ideals of unity, accountability, and active involvement of the students. The Liberal Arts and Education Department is eager to build important experiences, increase inter-student relationships, and develop a space for student learning, student leadership, and a spirit of student service to flourish as the new academic year begins.

The opening day of the 2026โ€“2027 academic year was marked by welcome remarks and introductions at the College of Maasinโ€™s Liberal Arts and Education Department on June 29, 2026โ€”a morning filled with campus discovery despite the inclement weather.

To start the first day, the Supreme Student Council organized a brief program that introduced the department officers and included some fun mini-games while everyone waited for the rain to stop so the departmental campus tour could begin.

Following the short program, new students joined a guided tour that mapped out the College of Maasinโ€™s facilities and support services. From lecture rooms to faculty offices, from the student-service centers to recreation facilities, it was all covered, so freshmen would leave with a clear understanding of the campus layout. In the process, officers from the department discussed the various resources available to Liberal Arts and Education students, such as advising services and designated study spaces.

At the end of the tour, students received lollipops and short inspirational quotes to keep them motivated for their first day. A photo was also taken of each program to commemorate studentsโ€™ first day as freshmen in the department.

As the academic year begins, the Liberal Arts and Education Department continues its efforts to provide welcoming, student-centered supportโ€”ensuring newcomers find both the resources and relationships they need to thrive at the College of Maasin.
