Lucena South I Turns Safety Drill into a Lesson in Preparedneness.
No running. No rushing. Just lock, stay, listen, and keep calm.
This was the scene at Lucena South I Elementary School on September 3, as learners, teachers, and school personnel participated in the National Simultaneous School Safety Drill pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 356, s. 2026.
Unlike a typical evacuation drill, the activity featured a simulated security threat involving an unauthorized or dangerous person entering the school premises. The scenario challenged the school community to respond appropriately when remaining inside the classroom was the safest course of action.
Teachers immediately secured their learners inside the classrooms, while pupils followed instructions and remained calm as the doors were secured. The exercise focused on the proper response to a potential security threat and the importance of following established school protocols.
A monitoring team led by Mr. Pablito Alay, Lucena South District Supervisor, together with the representative from SGOD observed the activity, with the participation of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the Sangguniang Barangay.
Following the exercise, a post-evaluation was conducted to review what transpired. Participants shared their observations, suggestions, and recommendations, while areas for improvement were identified for future implementation.
The activity was successfully carried out through the cooperation of learners, teachers, school personnel, parents, and community partners.
Audones B. DueΓ±as, Principal II, reiterated that the recommendations gathered during the post-evaluation would be noted and followed, particularly in strengthening the school's plans and measures for the protection of learners and personnel.
At Lucena South I, every drill is an opportunity to learn, assess, and be better prepared.
