Their journey was not easyβ€”filled with effort, discipline, and perseveranceβ€”but they chose to push forward and give their very best in every game. More than the medals they earned, it is their courage, sportsmanship, and love for the school that truly made us proud.

REAL DISTRICT MEET 2026 – CHESS TOURNAMENT
Date: July 18, 2026
Venue: Real Central Elementary School, Real, Quezon
DepEd Malapad Elementary School
The Real District Meet 2026 was successfully conducted on July 18, 2026 at Real Central Elementary School, bringing together the best young athletes from different elementary schools in the District of Real. The event aimed to promote sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and excellence among learners while selecting the district representatives for the upcoming Division Meet.
Malapad Elementary School proudly participated in the Chess Tournament under the leadership of School Head, Mrs. Marry Grace M. Saynes, with Mrs. Nanette A. Revellame serving as the Chess Coach. Through months of dedicated training and regular practice sessions, the school's young chess players demonstrated determination, patience, and strategic thinking throughout the competition.
The highlight of the tournament was the outstanding performance of Sofhia Syquarleth Bacsa San Miguel, a Grade 4 learner under the advisory of Mrs. Tharlene M. Potestades. Sofhia emerged as the Champion (1st Place) in the Elementary Girls Chess Tournament after earning an impressive 4.5 points out of 5 rounds, surpassing all other competitors.
The final standings were as follows:
1st Place – Sofhia Syquarleth Bacsa San Miguel (Malapad ES) – 4.5/5 points
2nd Place – Llavac Elementary School – 4/5 points
3rd Place – Heritage Elementary School – 3.5/5 points
4th Place – Arabella A. Dooc (Malapad ES) – 3/5 points
Arabella A. Dooc also performed commendably, finishing in 4th Place with 3 points out of 5 rounds, proving the strength and competitiveness of Malapad Elementary School's chess program.
We had also players in Chess boys tournament Den Mark PeΓ±aranda grade 6 under the advisory of Mrs Teresa Mel Poblete and Mark Jairy A. Tuibuen grade 4. They both got 2.5 out of 5 rounds.
Sofhia's victory is a source of pride not only for Malapad Elementary School but also for her family. She is the daughter of Ms. Mae Ann A. Bacsa, a third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education student at Northern Quezon Cooperative College, Inc. Her achievement reflects the combined support of her family, teachers, coach, and the school community.
According to Mr. Noel Santelices, Principal-in-Charge for Chess together with Mr. Eugene C. Eclavea, the next level of competition will be the Division Meet to be held in Gumaca, Quezon, where District Champions will represent the Municipality of Real. The school is hopeful that Sofhia will continue to perform well and bring honor to the district.
The success of the Malapad Elementary School delegation was made possible through the collective support of parents, teachers, stakeholders, and the community. The sports uniforms worn by the athletes were funded through the proceeds of the "Mr. Poging Tatay" Search held on July 10, 2026. With a budget of less than β‚±20,000, the event successfully supported the needs of the delegation, including uniforms for 26 athletes, meals and snacks, transportation assistance, and other tournament preparations. It also benefited more than ten teachers, the PTA, SELG officers, and parents who voluntarily prepared food and rendered services throughout the event.
The school extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Brgy. Captain for providing the Rusco vehicle, which greatly assisted in transporting athletes and equipment. Sincere appreciation is likewise extended to the generous parents who volunteered their three tricycles to transport learners, ensuring that everyone arrived safely and on time during the competition. Also we'd like to extend our gratitude to our Hon. Mayor Julie Ann Orozco Macasaet to lend us their vehicle for some players of Malapad ES. The school also won in different kind of events like athletics 1st place, dance sports which is also got 2nd place by Aquesha Kate Villanueva, a grade 6 pupil. Volleyball which is not yet finished, hoping that they still won the game, a challenger for the 2nd day.
Above all, Malapad Elementary School expresses its deepest appreciation to Mrs. Marry Grace M. Saynes, School Head, for her unwavering encouragement and leadership; to the parents for their trust and support; to the teachers and volunteers for their dedication; and most especially to the learners for their discipline, perseverance, and determination.
The remarkable achievement of winning the District Championship in Chess reflects the school's commitment to developing learners' talents and demonstrates that through teamwork, community support, and proper guidance, Malapad Elementary School continues to excel in both academic and athletic endeavors.-NAR
