First harvest of our 20 plants of lettuce
On April 3, 2024, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of Cotta National High School joyfully harvested the fruits of their labor—20 fresh and healthy lettuces from their school garden. This simple yet meaningful activity marked the success of their ongoing commitment to promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the school community.
The vegetable garden, cultivated and maintained by YES-O members, is part of the organization’s advocacy to promote organic gardening and responsible food production among students. With care, patience, and teamwork, the members were able to nurture the lettuces from seedlings to harvest-ready greens.
This successful harvest was made possible through the strong support of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) and the Alternative Learning System (ALS). Their collaborative efforts not only empowered student leaders to engage in hands-on environmental action but also highlighted the importance of unity and resourcefulness in building a greener and healthier school environment.
With this milestone, Cotta National High School continues to champion youth-led initiatives that cultivate not only crops but also responsibility, cooperation, and care for the planet.
