PANGALAWANG ARAW

10:00 am | Nekropolitika ng Sakuna: Etnograpiya, Teorya, at ang Ecopoetika ng Muhi sa Neoliberal at Pabayang Estado

Sa panayam na ito, susuriin natin kung paano nakakalikha ng nekropolitika ng sakunang lalong gumigipit sa maralitang Pilipino ang neoliberal na polisiya ng estado. Tatalakayin natin ang ugnayan ng sakunang nararanasan ng mga Pilipino na dulot ng extractive economies ng Global North na nagkukubli bilang lokal na extractive economy, at ang pagtugon ng neoliberal na estado sa tumitinding epekto ng climate change. Gamit ang affect at ecopoetika ng muhi, titingnan natin kung ano ang maaaring iambag ng etnografiya at teorya sa pagsulat, paglatag, at pagtalakay sa ating ugnayan sa kalikasan. Higit sa lahat, pag-uusapan natin kung anong kinabukasan ang kayang madalumat ng tula at panitikan sa pagharap sa dystopikong realidad ng climate-induced mass death.

Amiel Jansen Demetrial (they/them) is an instructor at Southern Luzon State University where they also received their Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics degrees. They were fellow for poetry in English in the 17th Ateneo National Writers Workshop and the 2019 UST National Writers Workshop and fellow in the 13th Kritika La Salle National Workshop on Art and Cultural Criticism. Their master’s thesis was a semi-finalist in the Loretta Makasiar Sicat Prize for the Social Sciences in 2023 while their bachelor’s thesis was recipient of the Chit Estella Memorial Award for Journalism Research in 2016. Their poems “Diva and other poems” were awarded 2nd place in the 2021 Normal Awards for Gender Inclusive Literature, which were the material for their first chapbook entitled “her womb plump and ripened, him.” Currently, they are a PhD student in Anthropology under full scholarship at the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Nicanor L. Guinto is a leading voice in Philippine sociolinguistics and discourse studies. He currently serves as Director of Research Services and Professor of Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis at Southern Luzon State University. Another Successful Seminar-Workshop!!!

SALIN: A Gender-Sensitive Training Course in Language Translation, a joint extension program of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Teacher Education (CTE) was held last June 7, 2025 at the 3rd floor of the SLSU Library

This meaningful event was held in partnership with the United Private Educational Institutions of Quezon, Inc. (UPEIQ) and the UST Sentro sa Salin at Araling Salin (UST SSAS), headed by Prof. Wennielyn Fajilan, PhD, who also served as one of the distinguished speakers.
