185 participants attended EIA training by SESAM-CETD

The Continuing Education and Training Division of the School of Environmental Science and Management, University of the Philippines Los Baños (CETD-SESAM-UPLB), in partnership with Philippines Network for Educators on Environment (PNEE) concluded the short online course on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from August 24-28, 2026.

The training aims to enhance technical knowledge of administrative procedures, increasing familiarity with relevant laws and policies, and strengthening capabilities in environmental compliance, monitoring, and impact prediction. It also boosted the knowledge of the participants on the latest updates on the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System (PEISS).

185 participants from academe, LGUs, national government agencies, private institutions and non-government organizations attended the training which was held via Zoom. SESAM-CETD, through the invited speakers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and University of the Philippines, employed an integrated approach consisting of theoretical lectures, as well as open forums for collaborative exchange. The participants applied the fundamentals they learned from these lectures during the workshop conducted in the final day of the training.

Dr. Decibel F. Eslava, SESAM Dean, thanked CETD for pursuing the extension mandate of SESAM and she also expressed her gratitude to the 185 participants who are very eager to learn while serving their constituencies. For. Sofia A. Alaira, head of CETD, and members including Dr. Thaddeus P. Lawas, Robert Patrick M. Cabangbang and Ms. Cherry S. Padilla made sure that the 14th batch of the EIA trainees will bring home a bag full of learnings from the lectures and knowledge sharing sessions.
