How can we test operational improvements without disrupting actual operations?

Through a research collaboration with Analog Devices, Inc., the UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering applied operations research to real-world challenges in semiconductor test manufacturingโ€”from employee break and canteen operations, to man-machine configurations, and ultimately to an integrated framework for resource planning.

The recently completed project demonstrates how simulation can help organizations experiment virtually, understand complex system behavior, and make better, evidence-based decisions before implementing changes in the real world.

Beyond manufacturing, the same approach holds promise for healthcare, government services, transportation, agriculture, and other complex systems.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sergio C. Capareda of Texas A&M University as one of the distinguished speakers at iCEAT 2026.

Dr. Capareda is a Professor and holder of the Endowed Calvin B. Parnell Faculty Fellowship at Texas A&M University and a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from UPLB, Master of Engineering in Energy Technology from the Asian Institute of Technology, and PhD in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Appointed to the Texas A&M faculty in 2005, Dr. Capareda developed and established the BioEnergy Testing and Analysis Laboratory. He has authored or co-authored more than 138 refereed journal publications, four book chapters, and two textbooks on biomass conversions and renewable energy, and holds two patents related to biofuel production and biomass pyrolysis and gasification systems. He is also an active member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Tri Retnaningsih Soeprobowati of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Indonesia, as one of the distinguished speakers at iCEAT 2026.

Dr. Tri Retnaningsih Soeprobowati specializes in limnology, aquatic ecology, paleolimnology, and diatom-based bioindication for water quality assessment and environmental reconstruction. As founder and director of the Cluster for Paleolimnology (CPalim) at UNDIP, she leads multidisciplinary research using lake and river sediment archives to reconstruct long-term ecological and climate change. Her recent work also explores Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience, including mangrove restoration, sustainable aquaculture, and community-based ecotourism.

With more than 100 publications in international journals, she has presented at global scientific forums and established collaborations across Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. She is also actively involved in mentoring young researchers and promoting science-based environmental policy and sustainable ecosystem management.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hiroki Tanikawa, Professor and Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Nagoya University, Japan, as one of the distinguished speakers at iCEAT 2026.

With more than 25 years of experience in material resource metabolism, Dr. Tanikawa specializes in material stock and flow analysis, applying GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and 4D-GIS to examine materials accumulated in buildings and infrastructure and their links to resource consumption and environmental impacts. His research contributes to the development of a circular economy and a more sustainable, stock-based society.

In the past 2 months, the department conducted the MS Industrial Engineering Bridging Program through a series of lectures covering Human Factors and Ergonomics, Production Systems and Operations Management, Analytics and Information Systems, and Operations Research.
