“Generosity, I’m here to show all that I can do!” -Rarity

Charitable efforts grew out of religious beliefs — stemming from the teaching of compassion and camaraderie within the community - to reach out to the poor and help alleviate their conditions. In recent years, we have seen charity branch out of these religious institutions into non-government agencies and acts of philanthropy.

Thus, in 2012, the United Nations General Assembly declared September 5 as the International Day of Charities, to commemorate and acknowledge the efforts of these groups and institutions in alleviating the quality of life of marginalized communities. According to the United Nations (n.d.), the role of charity has evolved throughout the years. It has become a supplementary tool for a country to fill critical gaps that the government cannot.

With the rise of the Internet and social media, it has helped surpass geographical limitations in extending help to those in need. And with philanthropists and non-government organizations helping reach people in need, they have become partners in community development and in achieving our sustainable development goals.

But charity that does not stem from genuine generosity and compassion may do more harm than good. Thus, the United Nations reiterated that charity should be community-driven, transparent, and grounded in humility. The people we are helping should not be reduced to “content.” They are people — living and feeling people. Thus, they must be treated with utmost respect and grounded in humility.

With this, we, the UPLB Human and Family Development Society, shall continue our efforts in extending our hand and grounding ourselves in Filipino families and communities through our advocacies and activities that promote human development. Additionally, we urge the government to be more rigorous in uplifting the Filipinos' quality of life; charity should serve as a supplement to an already established system, not the system itself. Because the most charitable act the Filipinos should receive is to be provided the capacity and capability to uplift themselves.

Every September 4, the world celebrates World Sexual Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about sexual health and affirming that sexual well-being is an important part of overall health and human dignity. This year’s theme, “Every Body,” reminds us that sexual health, rights, justice, and pleasure belong to every person, regardless of who they are or the body they inhabit.

Sexual health goes beyond the absence of disease or infection. It includes our physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being. It also calls for relationships and experiences that are grounded in respect, safety, and consent. Access to accurate information and appropriate sexual and reproductive health services is essential in helping individuals to make informed decisions about their bodies and their futures.

As a community, we recognize that every body matters and every person deserves dignity, autonomy, and respect. Let this day remind us that promoting sexual health is not simply about preventing illness but it is also about empowering individuals with knowledge, protecting their rights, respecting their boundaries, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

In UPLB Human and Family Development Society, we stand with the global movement toward a society where sexual health is understood as an essential part of human well-being. May we continue to foster open and respectful conversations, challenge harmful stigma, and advocate for accessible sexual and reproductive health services for all.

Every body deserves to be heard and respected. Every body deserves sexual health.

“Ang Kabayanihan ay Walang Pinipiling Pangalan.”

Every last Monday of August, our nation observes National Heroes Day—a day set aside not merely to remember a single prominent figure, but to honor the collective bravery of all Filipino heroes who have stood, resisted, and sacrificed their lives for justice, dignity, and sovereignty.

As defined by our history, true heroes are those who think of the future and struggle to build a system of freedom, equity, and order for the generations to come. Today, this spirit of heroism lives on through our everyday defenders: the workers who build the backbone of our economy, the educators nurturing the next generation, human rights advocates, and community leaders striving to build a society where no Filipino family is left behind.

The UPLB Human and Family Development Society stands in solidarity with every Filipino carrying the torch of service and sacrifice. May this day remind us that patriotism is not rooted in legislation, but in our everyday actions—to protect the truth, defend democratic values, and champion the welfare of our communities.

No one was born with a tutorial, nor with a manual. As we stand on a compass, finding our way through, may every misstep we’ve taken, every sign we’ve misread, and every wrong decision we’ve made remind us that we’re only human. 🧭 𝘕𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘥𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥—not to shame us or burden us, but to remind us that we are alive, and to make us brave enough to face our own journey.

May you always remember to pat yourself on the back and 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐡𝐮𝐠 🫂 for bravely trying, standing up, and navigating this unknown life. May you 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥, and 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞. 🏆 No one’s recognition will ever compare to the kind that comes from within yourself.

And lastly, whenever it feels like the world is against you, may the sunrays beaming through the window of your home make you feel warm, 🌅 just as they nostalgically did when you were a little kid. Because at the end of this lifetime, it was always the same home, the same sun, and the same little kid from the beginning of this story—still homeward bound.🏡💙

“Happy birthday to my loveliest and funniest girl, Zhai!” 💗🌷✨
- Ryza

As you celebrate another year of life, may you continue to embrace amor fati—loving your journey not only for its happiest moments but also for the lessons, changes, and unexpected turns that have helped shape you. 🌿🤍 And like Vienna reminds us, you do not always have to rush. Take your time, enjoy where you are, and trust that you are slowly becoming the person you are meant to be. 🌸🍃✨

May this new chapter bring you more reasons to laugh, more moments that make your heart feel full, and more memories with the people who truly appreciate and love you. 🎂💗 Never feel like you have to have everything figured out all at once—sometimes, the most beautiful things happen when we simply allow ourselves to grow at our own pace. 🌷☁️
Keep being the lovely and wonderfully Zhai that you are! 💐 May you continue to bring laughter and happiness to the people around you while also finding the same joy for yourself. ✨ So take it slow, enjoy the journey… Vienna waits for you. 🤍🎶🌷

Happy Birthday, Zhai! 🎉🎂💗🌸
