UPLB held the ceremonial signing and turnover of the Dr. Maria Antonia G. Tuazon Award for BS Nutrition Students at the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF) on August 28.

Established through a monetary grant from former College of Human Ecology (CHE) dean and IHNF director Dr. Maria Antonia G. Tuazon, the award will support BS Nutrition students in their thesis work, practicum, and participation in local and international conferences.

Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. joined Dr. Tuazon, CHE Dean Jennifer Marie Amparo, IHNF Director Liezl M. Atienza, and Office of Scholarships and Grants Director Ariel Babierra during the ceremony.

The UPLB College of Human Ecology congratulates Asst. Prof. Evaristo Niño T. Cando III, PhD of the UPLB Department of Community and Environmental Resource Planning on their selection as part of the delegates to the renowned 2026 NAST Future Science Leaders’ Forum (FSLF) to be held on 4-5 September 2026 in Metro Manila.

The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST PHL) organizes this forum to bring together young Filipino science leaders to showcase their expertise, achievements, and leadership while representing their respective institutions.

We are proud to have Asst. Prof. Cando represent the College of Human Ecology in this prestigious gathering. Your CHE family celebrates this well-deserved recognition with you. 👏

🌟Padayon, CHE! 🌟

The UPLB College of Human Ecology gathered for its Faculty Meeting on 17 August 2026 at the CHE Multipurpose Hall, bringing together CHE faculty to reflect on accomplishments, welcome new members, align priorities, and look ahead to the work that continues to shape the College.

From welcoming new faculty and celebrating colleagues pursuing and completing advanced studies, to recognizing achievements in research, instruction, extension, and public service, the meeting was a reminder of the many ways CHE contributes to knowledge and community development.

The meeting also highlighted CHE's continuing efforts to strengthen systems and build for the future — from digital initiatives such as CHE DigiTAB and DigiHub, to infrastructure development, the preparation for AUN-QA assessment of the BS Human Ecology program, and the continued development of regional partnerships through the ASEAN Human Ecology Consortium and Philippine Human Ecology Consortium.

And the numbers tell only part of the story: from May to August 2026, 186 manuscripts were submitted through CHE DigiTAB, with 137 approved at the Dean's level — a snapshot of the College's continuing culture of knowledge production and sharing.

At the heart of it all is a simple message: we grow by learning, unlearning, relearning, and moving forward together.

Here’s to another chapter of connecting people, knowledge, and action for a more sustainable future.

🌏🇵🇭 Philippine Human Ecology takes the global stage 🌏🇵🇭

From Philippines to Malaysia, the Philippine Human Ecology was proudly represented at the 2nd Human Ecology International Conference (HEIC II) on August 10–11, 2026.

The UPLB College of Human Ecology (CHE), together with members of the Philippine Human Ecology Consortium (PHEC), brought research, education, Indigenous knowledge, and partnership-building into an international conversation on “Sustaining Human Wellbeing.”

Across the two-day conference, the Philippine delegation showcased the many ways Human Ecology connects people, place, knowledge, policy, and practice — from research on child development and family life, to Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge in disaster resilience, to innovative approaches in teaching and learning Human Ecology.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote of Jennifer Marie S. Amparo, Dean and Professor of CHE-UPLB, who introduced the 3Cs of Human Ecology Education: Collaboration, Coherence, and Continuity—a vision for building a connected regional ecosystem for Human Ecology education in Asia.

The conference also marked a significant step toward regional collaboration through the soft launch of the ASEAN Human Ecology Consortium, bringing together Human Ecology institutions from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

More than showcasing Philippine scholarship, HEIC II opened opportunities to learn across contexts, build partnerships, and imagine the future of Human Ecology together.

A new chapter for Human Ecology in Southeast Asia begins.

On August 10, during the Human Ecology International Conference II (HEIC II) in Selangor, Malaysia, the ASEAN Human Ecology Consortium (AHEC) was officially launched—bringing together the UPLB College of Human Ecology - University of the Philippines Los Baños; Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); and Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University.

Rooted in a vision first discussed in 2017, AHEC seeks to strengthen Human Ecology education, research, and extension across the region through collaboration, knowledge sharing, joint research, exchanges, and co-created initiatives.

As Southeast Asia navigates interconnected challenges—from climate change and changing livelihoods to inequality, demographic transitions, and environmental degradation—Human Ecology offers an integrative lens that connects people, society, and the environment.

More than a network, AHEC envisions a regional platform where institutions can learn together, create together, and shape together the future of Human Ecology and human wellbeing in Southeast Asia. 🌱

From an idea shared nearly a decade ago to a regional consortium today, this is a milestone built on sustained dialogue, partnership, and a shared commitment to a more connected and sustainable ASEAN.
