THE FIELD OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Chemical engineers study and develop processes and technologies from piloting to commercial-scale processing of specific raw materials to marketable products in the most economical, efficient and environment-friendly operation. This broad discipline of chemical engineering gives its graduates opportunities to work with various industries such as biochemical agents

, computer systems and process control, environmental management, petro-chemicals, petroleum engineering, pharmaceuticals, superconductivity, sugar products and byproducts, pulp and paper products, and synthetics. Aside from the fields of industry, careers in the academe and in research also exist. graduate and doctoral degrees, is offered in universities, locally and internationally. Graduates of the BS Chemical Engineering Curriculum are expected to meet technical manpower requirements of newly emerging agri-based industries and traditional chemical process industries, specifically in the area of bio-processing engineering and chemical process engineering. Chemical engineers with some understanding of bio-processing are needed to scale up production from laboratory to bench levels into the industrial level. In the long run, local processing of raw materials into consumer and industrial products should help raise rural income, generate foreign exchange and protect the Philippine economy from adverse external trade conditions.

Effective 1st Semester AY 2025 to 2026, all BS ChE students who have graduated have been required to upload a soft copy of their certificate of participation in Process Safety Management (PSM) as part of the DChE clearance. Previously, this certificate can be obtained through any of the following:

[Option 1] Attending the PSM boot camp (held last December 2025 and January 2026) for BS ChE (General Curriculum) students who have already taken ChE 191, SUTC majors and PPT majors

[Option 2] Enrolling in ChE 191 already incorporated with PSM for students who have not yet taken ChE 191.

Option 1 has already been discontinued since 2nd Sem 2025-2026. UPLB DChE concentrated on Option 2 since this is a more feasible strategy for everyone.

All ChE 191 sections offered starting 2nd Sem AY 2025 to 2026 already have PSM.

However, it has come to our attention that there are still some students who have already taken ChE 191 prior to 2nd Sem AY 2025 to 2026 (hence without the PSM component) who were unable to avail of Option 1.

We are releasing this survey form for the Ad Hoc Committee on PSM to have an idea on the number of BS ChE students who were unable to avail of Option 1 or Option 2.

We are also requesting SUTC and PPT majors to accomplish this survey form since they do not have ChE 191 in their curricula.

We are requesting said students to answer this survey form on or before July 30, 2026 (11:59 pm). Link to the survey form can be seen below while QR code can be seen in the pubmat.

Thank you.
