A historic homecoming for UPOU’s first Student Regent
The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), held a congratulatory event to celebrate Ms. Mariton Manalili, the 43rd UP Student Regent and the first-ever Student Regent from UPOU today, 20 August 2026, at the World Class Multimedia Production Building (WCMPB), UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna,
UPOU officials, student leaders, and representatives from various student organizations gathered to honor this historic milestone and welcome Mariton into her new role as the student representative to the UP Board of Regents.
In her message, Mariton highlighted the realities that continue to shape students’ lives and access to education. She noted that broader social and economic systems create unjust conditions for many students. Some have to work while studying, pause their education, or return to school when circumstances allow. For her, UPOU shows what becomes possible when education is made more accessible and flexible.
As Student Regent, Mariton believes that addressing students’ immediate needs must go hand in hand with addressing the deeper issues that affect their lives. Through collective action, she hopes to help advance solutions that respond to both and work toward lasting change for students.

Isang mainit na pagbati mula sa pamilya ng UPOU Ugnayan ng Pahinungód, Direktor Joel L. De Castro (Asst. Prof., Faculty of Education).
Kami ay nasasabik na makasama kayo sa ating misyon, mga inisyatibo, at mga makabuluhang kolaborasyon. Sa inyong paggabay, hinahangad naming makaabot ng mas maraming komunidad, mapalawak ang akses sa dekalidad na edukasyon, at mapagtibay ang bukas na pagkatuto saanmang dako ng mundo.
Gayundin, lubos ang aming pasasalamat sa serbisyong inilaan ng dating direktor ng UPOU Pahinungód, Ginoong Larry N. Cruz (Research, Extension & Professional Staff, Program Development Associate at Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Management and Development Studies). Sa ilalim ng inyong panunungkulan, maraming makabuluhang adbokasiya ang naisulong, programa na naisagawa, at mga taong napaglingkuran. Isang karangalan ang maglingkod sa bayan kasama kayo. Si Ginoong Larry ay patuloy na maglilingkod sa UPOU Ugnayan ng Pahinungód bilang Katuwang na Direktor.
Mabuhay ang lideratong may puso para sa tapat ng paglilingkod. Muli, pagbati Direktor Joel, at maraming salamat Ginoong Larry!
