𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵: 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲

The UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources through the UPLB Training Center for Tropical Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability (TREES) hosted the 2026 Forestry Refresher Course from 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 at the 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹, bringing together aspiring foresters from various higher education institutions across the country.

The month-long course gathered 66 participants from 𝗔𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆–𝗟𝗼𝗯𝗼, 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘀 𝗕𝗮ñ𝗼𝘀. The course provided participants with an opportunity to revisit key forestry concepts and strengthen their knowledge in preparation for the 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗟𝗘) in October.

The participants were guided through four modules by experienced faculty members. 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗮. 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗚. 𝗗𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼 and 𝗙𝗼𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗕. 𝗘𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗲 served as facilitators for Forest Ecosystem (Module 1); 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘁. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻 for Forest Policy and Governance (Module 2); 𝗙𝗼𝗿. 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗗. 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗶 and 𝗙𝗼𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗖. 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹 for Forest Resources Management (Module 3); and 𝗙𝗼𝗿. 𝗟𝘆𝗸𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗖. 𝗨𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮 for Forest Engineering and Utilization (Module 4).

Through lectures, discussions, activities, simulation examinations, and mock examinations, the course provided a structured review of the major areas covered by the licensure examination. The face-to-face setup also allowed participants to engage directly with their facilitators and fellow reviewees throughout the training.

More than an academic review, the refresher course became a venue for participants from different institutions to share experiences, learn from one another, and form connections. Their diverse backgrounds and shared goal of becoming licensed foresters fostered a sense of camaraderie throughout the course.
As the participants prepare to take the FLE this October, TREES hopes that the knowledge, skills, and connections gained during the refresher course will help them move forward with greater confidence toward their professional journey in forestry.

𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 𝐓𝐓𝐁𝐃𝐎 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

The UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO), in partnership with the UPLB Training Center for Tropical Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability (TREES), conducted a 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 (𝗜𝗣) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 on 𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 at the 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹.

The training gathered 24 research, extension, and professional staff (REPS), faculty members, and administrative staff, providing participants with an introduction to key concepts and mechanisms for protecting intellectual property and maximizing the potential of research and creative outputs.

The training featured four lectures covering important areas of intellectual property. 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗠. 𝗚𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘇, 𝗥𝗖𝗵𝗧 discussed Trademarks and Geographical Indications, while 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗣. 𝗡𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 tackled Copyright. 𝗠𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗙. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗼 discussed Inventions—Patents, Utility Models, Industrial Designs, and Trade Secrets, while 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗖. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮-𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗠𝗕𝗔 presented Technology Transfer.

The training underscored the importance of properly protecting ideas, creative works, research outputs, and innovations. It also highlighted opportunities to translate these outputs into meaningful benefits for society through responsible knowledge sharing, innovation, and technology transfer.

Initiatives such as this strengthen the capacity of UPLB faculty and staff to recognize, protect, and maximize the value of intellectual property, supporting the University’s broader commitment to research, innovation, and public service.
