𝘽𝙎 𝘼𝘽𝙀 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙇𝙎𝙋𝙐-𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙤𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙑𝙎𝙐 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝘽𝙄𝙊𝙈𝙀𝘾𝙃

Six (6) BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BS ABE) students from Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU)–Siniloan Campus and Visayas State University (VSU) successfully completed their 240-hour internship at the Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH).

During a Culminating Activity held on 27 July 2026, the students presented their completion reports and shared insights and learnings from their experiences at BIOMECH.

Throughout their internship, the interns gained hands-on experience in computer-aided design (CAD), 3D printing, engineering design and layout, machine fabrication, machine testing, four-wheel tractor operation, and processing coffee pulp briquette and onion powder using BIOMECH-developed technologies.

They also participated in lectures on agricultural mechanization needs and design assessment (NADA), economic analysis of mechanization technologies, farm mechanization planning, intellectual property, and creating safe spaces in the workplace.

Beyond technical skills, the internship helped strengthen their teamwork, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and professionalism—essential qualities for future agricultural and biosystems engineers.

Through meaningful exposure to agricultural and biosystems mechanization research, development, and extension, BIOMECH hopes to inspire and equip the next generation of ABE professionals to develop innovative and impactful solutions for the challenges facing the agricultural and fisheries sector.

𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐂𝐇 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐂, 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐒𝐔, 𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 𝐀𝐁𝐄 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

The Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH) of the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT)-University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) conducted the culminating activities for the 200-hour Internship Program Completion of nine (9) BS ABE students from Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), Mindoro State University (MinSU), and UPLB on July 7 and 13, 2026.

Under the guidance of BIOMECH engineers, researchers, and extensionists, the interns gained hands-on experience in agricultural mechanization research, development, and extension (RDE). Their training covered capsule proposal development, QGIS-based mechanization resource mapping, agricultural machine design and fabrication, CAD, design simulation and 3D printing, machine testing and evaluation, mechanization planning, introduction to needs and design assessment, and extension approaches. They also participated in UPLB facility tours and workplace professionalism training to further enrich their learning experience.

The internship concluded with culminating activities on July 7 and 13, 2026, where the interns presented their key learnings, challenges, adaptations, and recommendations to the BIOMECH core technical staff.

Together with the BIOMECH core technical staff, Engr. Ria Salustia DG. Dumingding, internship program coordinator for the UPLB interns and Instructor 7 at the Agribiosystems Machinery and Power Engineering Division (AMPED), Institute of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, CEAT, UPLB, attended the July 13 activity.

BIOMECH remains committed to providing meaningful experiential learning opportunities that help prepare future agricultural and biosystems engineers to become competent professionals and advocates of agricultural mechanization in their communities.

𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗖𝗛 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗖

As part of their internship program, student interns of the Center for Agri-fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH) visited the Organic Agriculture Research, Development and Extension Center (OARDEC) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) on 13 July 2026 for an educational tour.

The activity provided the interns with valuable information about the agricultural tools, machinery, and equipment used in organic farming, while allowing them to observe farming operations and identify processes with potential for mechanization.

The interns were welcomed by Mr. Ian Mari E. Reaño, University Researcher II and Farm Manager of OARDEC. They also witnessed a demonstration on the preparation of fermented plant juice (FPJ) using kakawate leaves and banana trunks by OARDEC research staff, Ms. Princes Diane O. Cada and Mr. Jairus D. Porque, with a hands-on activity. Mr. Reaño also introduced the agricultural machines and equipment used in OARDEC's farm operations and discussed their applications in organic farming.

The educational tour was attended by BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering student interns from Bulacan State Agricultural College (BASC), Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU)–Siniloan Campus, Mindoro State University (MinSu), Visayas State University (VSU), and UPLB. They were accompanied by BIOMECH staff, Engr. Ronnie C. Valencia, Engr. Mel Vincent A. Ampo, Engr. Marck Ferdie V. Eusebio, Engr. Deo Jay T. Manglal-lan, and Engr. Yaminah Mochica M. Pinca.

With these activities, BIOMECH continues to provide meaningful learning opportunities for intended clientele, bridging engineering, mechanization, and sustainable agricultural practices into practical use.

Twenty-six Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) students interning at AMTEC, representing seven state universities and colleges (SUCs) offering ABE programs, explored BIOMECH's facilities to learn how agricultural mechanization technologies are developed—from design and fabrication at the CEAT Machine Shop to real-world innovations showcased at the BIOMECH Display Area. The visit highlighted BIOMECH's commitment to creating practical, farmer-centered solutions and advancing agricultural mechanization through research, development, extension, and technology transfer.
