𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗔𝗬 '𝟮𝟲
Today, we remember the stories etched in our history and heritage. We commemorate the Filipinos who shaped the nation, helped obtain our sovereignty, and fought for the love of their country. Their lives remind us that the Philippines is shaped by those who stand for something greater than themselves.
In the present, the struggle for truth and justice continues to take different forms. And so now, heroes too are the people who choose to do heroic actions against injustice; those who continue to hold their pens, those who keep the camera rolling, and those who hold the mic despite the attempts of others to shadow their will. Heroes are those who demand accountability, seek truth, speak up against anomalies, and stand against tyranny, fascism, corruption, and imperialism.
Then and now, may we honor the heroes that have served the country and those who continuously strive to make the Philippines for Filipinos. Through the power of photographs, we capture and immortalize the fleeting moments of heroic actions, preserve them so future generations could look back, draw courage, and birth new versions of it in their own time.
The UP Photographers’ Society is one with the nation in remembering and recognizing the heroes of the history and of the present. May we always be part of something greater, something heroic, and something for the betterment of the Filipino people and of the Philippines.
