The College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) invites the academic community to an upcoming seminar featuring Dr. Pablo Cuenca, Director of the Global Change Laboratory and Co-Director of the Tropical Ecosystems and Global Change Research Group at Universidad Regional Amazónica Ikiam.

Dr. Cuenca will discuss “Estimating Carbon Stocks and Forest Recovery during Restoration in the Ecuadorian Amazon: Patterns, Processes, and Challenges,” highlighting important insights into carbon dynamics and forest recovery in tropical forest restoration.

The Department of Forest Biological Sciences (DFBS) congratulates Asst. Prof. Timog on successfully completing the FMFC International Training on Herbal Bioactive Compound Analysis and Applied Product Development conducted from 20 - 26 July 2026 at the Medicinal Plants Innovation Center (MPIC), Mae Fah Luang University, Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The training provided hands-on experience in chemical composition analysis by HPLC and systems-level approaches, including proteomics, antiviral screening, and metabolomics with network pharmacology. It also covers antibacterial screening (agar diffusion, MIC, and MBC), and MTT-based cytotoxicity assessment, all adhering to international standards such as CLSI/EUCAST, THP, WHO, and USP guidelines.

This training further strengthened his research skills on medicinal plants. We look forward to the valuable insights and knowledge he will bring to our teaching, research, and laboratory activities in the department.

Our very own faculty and teaching fellow have recently returned from participating in the FMFC International Training on Mushrooms: from Farm to Table, gaining valuable experiences in mycology, laboratory techniques, and sustainable mushroom cultivation.

From being active participants in these international learning spaces to returning as our faculty members, Ma'am Clarisse and Ma'am Kaysee now bring home new perspectives, technical skills, and practical mycology knowledge that will enrich our classrooms, elevate laboratory sessions, and inspire their students.

We’re excited to see how these experiences will continue to shape their teaching, research, and contributions to sustainable food systems and mycology!

𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤, 𝐌𝐚’𝐚𝐦 𝐊𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐬! 🌏🌿

Our Teaching Associates have recently completed their participation in international summer courses in Indonesia and Taiwan, gaining valuable experiences in biodiversity, conservation, culture, and environmental education.

Ma’am Kylie completed the two-week International Summer Course on Tropical Biodiversity and Sustainable Development, "From Ecosystems to Repositories: Data-Driven Insights into Tropical Biodiversity," held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from July 6–18, 2026, and hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada. During the course, she learned about genomics, DNA analysis, spatial ecology, and bioinformatics while participating in tropical fieldwork, DNA sequencing, drone mapping, and GIS applications.

Meanwhile, Sir Migs recently returned from the Biodiversity, Agriculture, and Culture (BACT) Summer Program in Taiwan, held from June 22 to July 22, 2026, and hosted by National Taiwan University. The four-week immersive program brought together international students to explore Taiwan’s biodiversity, agriculture, and culture through a combination of classroom learning, institutional visits, fieldwork, and cultural exploration.

From being students and participants in these international learning spaces to returning as Teaching Associates, Ma’am Kylie and Sir Migs now bring home new perspectives, experiences, and knowledge that can enrich our classrooms and inspire their students.

We’re excited to see how these experiences will continue to shape their graduate studies, teaching, and contribute to future conservation efforts! 🌱🌏
