Quezon Misconceptions Now Provided with Clarification
“I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos than a country run like heaven by the Americans…”
This has been a common misconception about Manuel L. Quezon due to the circulation of an unfinished quotation. Many were unaware that there is a preceding part:
“…because however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it.”
More misconceptions and information were clarified in Lucena City, Quezon, on October 4, 2025.
Schools across Quezon Province were invited to the Bayani Ba ’To? Forum, including HUMSS students and teachers from LNCHS, spearheaded by Ms. Ma. Genelle P. Curioso, Mrs. Felecidad Adeline P. Llaguno, and the PoliSophia Organization.
The forum featured a screening of “Quezon”, the final film in TBA Studios’ Bayaniverse, held at the Quezon Convention Hall, Enverga University Main Campus, exploring “MLQ: Mga Lingering Questions on Leaders, Legacy, and Liberty.”
During the forum, students discussed the film’s exploration of leadership, the definition of a bayani, and civic engagement.
The event sparked discussions on President Manuel L. Quezon’s political journey and contributions to Philippine independence, helping participants gain a deeper appreciation of historical narratives and their relevance to modern political realities.
Before the forum ended, Mr. Birwin A. Abustan shared his definition of a bayani:
“Ordinaryong taong tumutugon sa ekstra-ordinaryong tawag ng panahon.”
This encouraged participants to stay open-minded and stand for what is right, turning ordinary moments into opportunities for heroism.
