The study was conducted by Prof. Cyren Capistrano-Oseรฑa and Prof. Joy Angelle B. Remojo, contributing to the growing body of research on inclusive and equitable higher education.

Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study explored the lived experiences of student mothers at PNUSL, focusing on the challenges they encounter in balancing motherhood and academic responsibilities, the coping mechanisms they employ, and the institutional and social support systems available to them. The research highlights how time management demands, financial constraints, emotional stress, and societal expectations shape the educational journeys of student mothers while underscoring their resilience and determination to complete their studies.

The findings revealed that 97% of the respondents struggled with time management and academic workload, 82% reported that childcare and household responsibilities significantly affected their study time, while 68% experienced emotional and physical stress associated with balancing family and academic obligations. Despite these challenges, many student mothers relied on strategic time management, family support, peer networks, and personal resilience to persist in their education. The study also found that although 76% of respondents were aware of institutional support mechanisms, many considered these services insufficient or difficult to access.

The study emphasizes the need for more inclusive and responsive institutional policies that support student mothers, including flexible academic arrangements, child-friendly learning spaces, expanded financial assistance, strengthened mentorship programs, and accessible mental health services. By shedding light on the realities of student mothers in higher education, the research provides valuable evidence for developing policies and programs that promote educational equity, student well-being, and academic success.

Using a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach with a sequential mixed-methods design, the researchers developed an organic vinegar from the underutilized Pik-iw banana (Musa balbisiana Colla), a local banana variety often discarded because of its numerous seeds. The study aimed to transform this overlooked agricultural resource into a sustainable, value-added product while promoting environmental sustainability and providing an alternative livelihood opportunity for local communities.

The developed organic vinegar demonstrated high consumer acceptability, receiving an overall mean score of 3.656 (Strongly Agree) from subject matter experts, future researchers, and consumers. Among the evaluated criteria, overall quality obtained the highest rating (3.685), followed by aroma (3.655) and taste (3.630), indicating that the product possesses excellent sensory qualities and strong market potential.

The findings underscore the potential of utilizing Pik-iw bananas as a sustainable raw material for organic vinegar production, reducing agricultural waste while creating opportunities for value-added food products and rural entrepreneurship. The study demonstrates how locally available yet underutilized resources can be transformed into innovative products that contribute to environmental sustainability, food innovation, and community development. The researchers recommend further studies on fermentation methods, product optimization, and broader consumer evaluations to enhance the product's commercial viability.

The Philippine Normal University South Luzon successfully conducted Session 1 of the Research Capacity Building Program (RCBP) Reboot, titled "Proposal Development in Evaluation Research," on July 8, 2026. Spearheaded by the Philippine Normal University Research Management Office (RMO) in collaboration with the Office of the Director for Research, Extension, Quality Assurance, and Development (ODREQAD) of PNU South Luzon, and in partnership with De La Salle University, the activity was held in a hybrid format, bringing together faculty and staff both onsite at the Information Technology Center (ITeC) and online via Zoom.

The highlight of the session was the mentoring lecture of Dr. Hazel T. Biana, Full Professor from the Department of Philosophy of De La Salle University, who shared valuable insights on developing high-quality evaluation research proposals. Through her expertise, participants gained a deeper understanding of the essential elements of proposal development, practical strategies in conceptualizing evaluation research, and key considerations in crafting rigorous and impactful research studies.

The session also featured an engaging open forum, where participants actively exchanged ideas and sought guidance on their prospective research initiatives. The collaborative discussions further enriched the learning experience and reflected the University's commitment to advancing research excellence through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
