On the afternoon of December 10, 2025, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) and the Girls Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) conducted a community gardening activity at the Barangay Hall of Brgy. Hondagua. This initiative aimed to promote community beautification, strengthen the studentsโ sense of environmental responsibility, provide a possible source of herbal medicines for citizens in need, and eventually become a fund source once the vegetable garden begins to produce harvests.
The program began with a warm welcome from Kuya Kap Arnel Laydia, followed by important reminders on proper planting from both YES-O and GSP advisers. Students and advisers worked together to prepare the planting area by cleaning the surroundings, removing weeds, and loosening the soil.
YES-O officers planted various flowering plants, including daisy, roses, ornamental grass, and other ornamentals, to add beauty to the surroundings of the barangay hall. On the other hand, GSP members planted different herbal plants such as lagundi, oregano, maria, serpentina, lemon grass, aloe vera, luyang dilaw, sambong, and pandan, which can serve as natural remedies for the community.
Additionally, a vegetable garden area is still in preparation, which will soon be planted with vegetables. Once fully established, it can help support future community projects through its harvests.
By the end of the afternoon, the once plain barangay hall grounds were transformed into a greener and livelier space. The success of this activity reflects the shared commitment of YES-O, GSP, their advisers, and the officials of Brgy. Hondagua in caring for the environment and supporting the needs of the community.
