Guites NHS Holds Advocacy Symposium for a Safer and More Responsible School Community
GUITES LOPEZ, QUEZON — Guites National High School (Guites NHS) conducted an Advocacy Symposium on September 8, 2026, aimed at strengthening learners’ awareness of safety, legal responsibilities, and responsible citizenship.
The symposium focused on three important areas: the Juvenile Justice and Welfare System, Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC), and practical safety preparedness. Through these discussions, learners were provided with essential knowledge to help them make informed and responsible decisions and contribute to a safer school community.
The activity began with the registration and attendance facilitated by the School Youth Formation Division (YFD) Officers, followed by the National Anthem and Invocation. Head Teacher I Jenette M. Pañoso delivered the Welcome Address, while SPTA President Leopoldo B. Abino gave a message emphasizing the importance of cooperation among the school, parents, and the community in promoting the welfare and safety of learners.
In her Statement of Purpose, Connie R. Ladesma, SHS Designated Guidance Coordinator, highlighted the importance of equipping learners with knowledge about their rights, responsibilities, and the proper ways to respond to situations that may affect their safety and well-being.
During the symposium proper, PSSg Jilbert B. Red discussed Practical Application and Safety Preparedness, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and appropriate responses during emergencies and other situations that may pose risks to the school community.
Meanwhile, PCMS Alona A. Ayaton led a discussion on the Juvenile Justice and Welfare System and Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC). The session aimed to deepen learners’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities while promoting respect, awareness, and the importance of seeking appropriate help when faced with situations that threaten their safety or the safety of others.
The activity was also strengthened by the support and participation of local government officials. Brgy. Kagawad Carlito D. Rodriguez Jr. represented Brgy. Captain Godwin M. Llorera of Guites, while Ailyn L. Saligan, BLGU Committee Chair on Education and Councilor of Brgy. Guites, also delivered a message. Brgy. Kagawad Elvigio T. Alano likewise attended the symposium, further demonstrating the community’s support for programs that promote the protection, welfare, and development of learners.
The symposium concluded with the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation to the resource speakers, followed by the Closing Remarks delivered by Hazel V. Labso, JHS Designated Guidance Coordinator.
Serving as Masters of Ceremony were Rochelle E. Legario and Daryl Joy T. Bagtas.
More than an information-sharing activity, the symposium served as a meaningful reminder that building a safe, responsible, and caring school community is a shared responsibility. Through continued collaboration among learners, teachers, parents, and community leaders, Guites NHS remains committed to fostering an environment where every learner is informed of their rights, aware of their responsibilities, and prepared to make safe and responsible choices.
