𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗟 | 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗔! 𝗛𝗨𝗪𝗔𝗚 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗢𝗧!: 𝗣𝗨𝗦𝗛 𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗧 𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘

February 25 marks a controversial moment in Philippine history, the People Power Revolution of 1986, where millions of Filipinos peacefully rose against the Marcos dictatorship, reclaiming democracy after years of martial law, corruption, and human rights abuses. It was a victory not only for those who gathered at EDSA but for the entire nation that had endured suffering in silence.

However, under the leadership of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., this historical event has been quietly removed off the list of national holidays. The move is more than just a policy adjustment; it is a deliberate attempt to falsify history, minimize sins of the past, and sanitize the legacy of the dictatorship that the Filipino people overthrew.

The administration's decision to remove the official EDSA commemoration sends a message that the fight for democracy can be ignored, history is negotiable, and horrendous lessons from the past may be discarded at anytime. However, history belongs to the people, not those in authority, and no decree can change the truth.

What happened 39 years ago was not a myth! It was genuine, and it influenced the liberties that Filipinos enjoy today. Erasing its formal legality does not erase the sacrifices made, the voices suppressed, or the families shattered by the tyranny. If anything, this act of historical revisionism should serve as a warning: a country that forgets its history is doomed to repeat its sins.

The question is no more whether EDSA should be remembered; IT MUST BE. The true task is to ensure that, despite attempts to rewrite history, Filipinos never cease saying the truth. The true battle lies within protecting what we know as truth and condemning the quiet white-washing of mistakes. Makibaka at huwag na muling matakot!
