Luna National High School was founded on April 1968 through the initiative of Mr. Diao, a former teacher at Bibiclat High School and a resident of Gen. Luna, Llanera, Nueva Ecija, with the help of the barangay officials headed by Captain Proceso C. and Treasurer Francisco T. Bautista who happened to be the principal of Gen. Luna Elementary School by that time. These officials decided to open the s
chool as a barangay project since most people in the community could not afford to send their children to school due to poverty. Through the cooperation of the parents of Brgy. Luna, all first and second year students were identified to reach the sufficient number enough to open two sections. The officials included Murcon, Gen. Ricarte, Bosque, and Mabini as feeder barangays. There was no difficulty of meeting the number of 43 first year and 39 second year students. The first step done by the Barangay Council was to prepare a budget enough to meet the expenditures of hiring 4 teachers. The second step was to forward a requisition to the office of Gov. Joson for desk and arm chairs. The third step was to prepare another resolution which was forwarded to the Provincial Engineering Office requesting for the two units Marcos type, three-room building. Each official worked hand and hand until the processed important documents were approved by the concerned officials. The Gen. Luna Barangay High School started to operate in 1968. It was opened with two sections, first and second year classes with four teachers. The pioneer teachers were Mrs. Remedios M. Mababa, Ms. Mercedes Bautista, Ms. Papaya Abesamis, and Mr. Catalino Nayal. The two sections smoothly sailed adding one teacher each year until these students were recognized and graduated with six teachers namely Mrs. Aurelia C. Maulino, Mrs. Constancia C. Jimenez, and Mrs. Murmuray Balunes. After the first graduation in the school year 1971-1972, the number of third and fourth year students decreased. So, the Assistant Principal Francisco Bautista had no choice but to abolish the two sections. The three teachers then were not accommodated. Nevertheless, the barangay officials stood firm to their feet and looked for better measures. They allotted seventy sacks of palay to aid the salary of the teachers which overcome the problems until the school successfully ran first year to fourth year classes. At first the Gen. Luna High School only shared a space in the Gen. Luna Elementary School Campus. During that time, the principals of Gen. Luna Elementary School were as follows; Mr. Francisco Bautista from 1968-1980, Mrs. Cecilia Toledo from 1980-1987, and Mrs. Marcelina Dela Cruz, 1987-1988 took charge in the operation of the high school. In 1988, Mr. Jacinto M. Grospe was assigned as the teacher-in-charge of the school and soon become the first full-pledged principal in 1995. During his leadership, the vision of having its own school lot and buildings had been materialized. Federated Parents and Teachers Association (FPTA) President Ambrocio L. Matias Sr. led the parents to buy a lot for the school. They collected funds from all sources such as FPTA contributions, caroling, halloween, and other income-generating projects. In 1994, they fully paid, acquired and donated the six thousand square meter lot to the Gen. Luna Barangay High School. The first building was established at the new site through the support of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in 1995. The one classroom building was occupied by the fourth year students. In 1996, the five-classroom building was built through the Countrywide Development Fund (CDF) of Congressman Eleuterio F. Violago, wherein the whole populace of students transferred to the new site. The school fence was started in 1998 and completed in 2008. The centennial gate was given by Atty. Ambrocio M. Matias in the year 2000. In 2002, Mr. Manuel Villaflor was assigned as the new school head of the school. A four-classroom building was erected from the CDF of Hon. Congressman Eleuterio F. Violago. Due to health reason, Mr. Villaflor retired and Mrs. Jimenez was appointed as the teacher-in-charge for almost one year. In 2004, Dr. Juliana A. Alvarez was assigned as the principal. Together with the General Parents and Teachers Association (GPTA) President Leopoldo F. Arcangel, Dr. Alvarez passed a resolution requesting a school gymnasium. In 2005, through the CDF of Congressman Violago, the school gymnasium was constructed. At the same year, two-classroom Joson building was constructed and a “green house” was given also by Gov. Tomas N. Joson II. In 2007, Gen. Luna Barangay High School was nationalized. Comfort room in every classroom was pushed through in the school year 2008-2009. In May 6, 2008, a parcel of the school lot with an area of three thousand eight hundred ninety three (3,893) sq. meter was titled. On December 9, 2009, a new school head Mrs. Teodora D. Vitug was accommodated in the school. Like her predecessors, she is looking forward for the improvement and development of the school. The elevation of the achievement level of the students through harmonious collaboration with the school’s stakeholders is what she wants to maintain. In 2010, a computer building was established through the CDF of Congressman Joseph F. At present, renovations of stage, library, and computer building, gardens are only some of the improvement of the school. There are eleven-academic rooms, three-ancilliary rooms, one guard house given by Hon. Lorna Mae B. Vero, Mayor of Llanera, three-door comfort room for boys and three-door comfort room for girls. The faculty and staff consists of one school principal, fifteen permanent teachers, four PLSB teachers, and two security guards. The school caters the students coming from barangays of Murcon, Bosque, Mabini, Gen. Ricarte, Llanera and Casile. More students are expected to enroll, be trained and become worthy citizens. Until now, the Gen. Luna National High School is an institution of learning dedicated to provide quality education that is accessible to all.
