In pursuit of innovation-driven learning and meaningful research experiences, Baay National High School Senior High School (SHS) proudly highlights its collaboration with the University of Abra through Project AMIRIS (AI-Driven Smart Farming Technology)—an emerging innovation that bridges agriculture, technology, and data science.
Developed by Dr. Excel Philip Guidang, Associate Professor of the Information Technology Department of ASIST, Project AMIRIS utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and precision agriculture technologies to provide smarter approaches in assessing soil conditions. Through its Automatic NPK Analyzer and AI-based soil analysis system, the technology supports faster evaluation of soil fertility indicators such as nutrient levels, soil characteristics, and other essential factors influencing crop productivity.
As part of the SSHS Research 2 curriculum requirement, learners of Baay National High School are given the opportunity to apply authentic scientific inquiry by utilizing the soil testing technology in assessing their research crop plots. Through the guidance of Mr. Paul John O. Dawal, Teacher VI/Research Coordinator, and the application of concepts learned from SciEd323: Data Analytics in Science Education under Dr. Guidang, students engage in collecting, processing, interpreting, and analyzing agricultural data using digital tools.
This initiative reflects Baay National High School’s commitment to strengthening research-based learning, innovation, and future-ready skills development among Senior High School learners. Beyond completing research requirements, students are being equipped with valuable competencies in data analytics, scientific investigation, technology integration, and evidence-based decision-making—skills that will support them as they pursue higher education and future careers in science, technology, agriculture, and related fields.
The integration of Project AMIRIS into the BNHS Strengthened SHS Curriculum demonstrates how meaningful partnerships between basic education institutions and higher education institutions can create opportunities for learners to experience real-world applications of knowledge and innovation.
Baay National High School extends its sincere appreciation to the University of Abra, Dr. Excel Philip Guidang, with the utilization of his Project AMIRIS for sharing this groundbreaking technology and supporting the development of young researchers who are ready to contribute to sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.
🌾 From the classroom to the field, BNHS continues to cultivate young innovators—one research project, one data set, and one discovery at a time.
