DEVELOPING CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING SKILLS AMONG LEARNERS THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OF TEST ITEMS USING HIGHER‑ORDER THINKING SKILLS (HOTS)
Bonbon Elementary School conducted a productive School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session this afternoon, September 25, 2026, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM, focused on strengthening assessment practices to foster critical and creative thinking among learners.
Facilitated by Master Teacher Basilio R. Reolo, the session gathered the school’s teaching force together with student teachers for a meaningful exchange on Higher‑Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in test construction.
The session highlighted the importance of moving beyond recall‑type questions to designing assessments that require learners to analyze, compare, evaluate, predict, and create. Using the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) Taxonomy, participants explored how to transform simple questions into thought‑provoking ones that deepen understanding and connect lessons to real‑life situations.
The session concluded with a shared commitment: to consistently integrate HOTS into classroom instruction and assessment, ensuring that every learner at Bonbon Elementary School is empowered not just to remember, but to think, understand, and innovate.
