SAIS leads 3-day cleanup drive vs. dengue threat

In response to the growing health crisis across the province, San Agustin Integrated School (SAIS) mobilized teachers, parents, non-teaching staff, and community stakeholders for a three-day clean-up drive from September 16 to 18 to eliminate potential dengue breeding grounds on campus and surrounding areas.

The proactive campus-wide operation came on the heels of the provincial government's declaration of a State of Calamity following a continuous surge in dengue cases throughout Albay.

School officials, together with volunteers from various sector groups, focused on draining stagnant water in containers, clearing trash dumps, cleaning clogged roof gutters, and clearing overgrown foliage that could harbor Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

According to health guidelines, eliminating standing water remains the primary defense against mosquito-borne infections, particularly during the wet season when vector populations spike.

The three-day operation covered both elementary and secondary school grounds, with local barangay leaders and parent-teacher association (PTA) representatives committing to maintain regular clean-up schedules throughout the remainder of the rainy season.//

FIRST DENGUE CASE CONFIRMED IN BRGY. SAN AGUSTIN, LIBON

Local health authorities confirmed the first dengue case in Barangay San Agustin, prompting immediate containment protocols to avert a potential localized outbreak across the community and nearby schools.

The single infection in San Agustin is part of a municipality-wide tally that has reached 122 total cases as of Sept. 19, according to data released by the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Libon.

Across the entire province of Albay, which remains under a State of Calamity, cumulative cases have climbed past 1,785 with 14 recorded fatalities, placing local hospitals on code red alerts.

Of the total municipal cases in Libon, 112 patients have been discharged, while 10 remain admitted in hospitals. East Carisac currently records the highest number of cases in the municipality at 18, followed by San Vicente and Marayag with 15 each, and Burabod with 14.

In response to the rising numbers, the Barangay Council, local health workers, and personnel from San Agustin Integrated School mobilized an intensive vector control operation.

Following Department of Health (DOH) protocols, residents were ordered to implement the 5S Strategy—searching and destroying breeding sites, securing self-protection, seeking early consultation, agreeing to fogging, and sustaining hydration.

Alongside national health guidelines, RHU Libon emphasized its local campaign urging residents to practice the "4Ts" preventive measures: Taob (turn over unused water containers), Taktak (shake off stagnant water), Tuyo (dry out water storage), and Takip (cover all water containers) to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) advised the public to closely monitor family members for symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, joint pains, and skin rashes, urging immediate reporting of suspected cases to the Barangay Health Center.//

Sa panahong ito, higit na kailangan ng mga mag-aaral, g**o, pamilya, at school community ang privacy, pag-unawa, at suporta.

What happens when every Filipino learner gets the chance to learn better?

Researchers estimate that if every 15-year-old in the Philippines reaches at least PISA Level 2, it could add around US$14 trillion to our economy over their working lifetimes.

That’s more than a number. It represents the opportunities, skills, and potential we can unlock through better learning.

Every lesson matters. Every learner counts. And every teacher plays a vital role in turning learning into opportunity—and opportunity into economic progress.

Together, let’s unlock the potential of every Filipino learner and build a stronger, more prosperous future for our country.
