What a deeply meaningful and unforgettable day it has been for Mahaplag National High School.

We extend our sincerest and most heartfelt gratitude to UP Ideopraxist of the University of the Philippines Tacloban College, who spearheaded Karit Anyag 2026 in celebration of National Arts Month with the theme, “Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Giting,” in partnership with UP Tacloban College – Division of Humanities and UP Tacloban Ugnayan ng Pahinungod.

You did not simply conduct a workshop—you created a space where courage was practiced, where truths were spoken, and where art became a living, breathing testimony of our students’ realities. Our learners, especially from the Special Program in the Arts and across different academic strands, were fully engaged not only in activity but in reflection and growth. They learned new skills, yes—but more importantly, they learned that art carries responsibility, voice, and power.

One of the most memorable moments came when a participant described the experience as “More than perfect.” It drew smiles from everyone. Though playfully imperfect in grammar, it expressed something genuine and profound. It reflected how the day felt—sincere, inspiring, and deeply impactful.

If there was one shared sentiment among our students, it was this: they wished it lasted longer. One day felt too short for something that stirred so much creativity, thought, and confidence. That longing speaks volumes about the success of the program.

From the depths of our gratitude, thank you for choosing Mahaplag National High School. Thank you for investing your time, your talent, and your hearts into our learners. Karit Anyag has left a mark that will remain with us—not only in the works created that day, but in the courage awakened within our students.

In a time when truth is clouded by disinformation and voices are deliberately silenced, art is an act of bravery. It remembers what others seek to forget and gives expression to realities that are often pushed to the margins.

‎As we celebrate National Arts Month 2025 with the theme “𝗔𝗻𝗶 𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴,” 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗮𝗴 celebrates artistic expression that chooses to confront, speak the truth, and hold its ground. From the struggles to the dreams, art continues to reflect society as it is— unafraid.

‎We continue to be committed to providing platforms that cultivate the artistic skill of student artists in Eastern Visayas, along with our mission of preserving the art and culture of the region. For its fourth year, Karit Anyag will reach the students of 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗴 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘆𝘁𝗲, 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

‎For the real harvest of art is not just in its beauty, but in its ability to tell uncomfortable truths, preserve our shared heritage, and empower communities through action and unbridled artistic expression. Beyond its beauty, art is a witness—that carries the stories of struggle, resilience, and hope that represent the lived realities of the Filipino people.

📢 Mahaplag NHS Hosts Portfolio Day and Mini-Recital: A Strong First Step for Young Artists

Every great artist begins with a first step—and last Saturday, August 30, 2025, our learners took theirs.

The Function Hall of Mahaplag National High School, Brgy. San Isidro, Mahaplag, Leyte, came alive with excitement and pride as the school held its Portfolio Day and Mini-Recital for the First Academic Quarter of S.Y. 2025–2026.

The event brought together teachers, parents, and learners under the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) for a day that celebrated both learning and creativity. It was more than just a showcase; it was an opportunity for students to take their first steps onto the stage, to feel what it’s like to share their growing talents with an audience. For many, this was a new experience—one that builds confidence and courage for the road ahead.

Alongside the creative portfolio displays and selected stage performances, the day also featured the release of quarterly grades and the announcement of academic honors—a moment that recognized not only artistic growth but also the hard work and perseverance that students have shown in their studies. These moments served as a reminder that behind every piece of art is a learner striving to do their best in all aspects of their education.

Our mentors could not be prouder of what these young artists have achieved so far, and we are deeply thankful to the parents for their unwavering support and trust in this specialized program. Your encouragement makes a world of difference in shaping these learners into well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on bigger challenges.

This is just the beginning—a strong and promising first step toward nurturing confident, skilled, and passionate individuals who will make their mark in the world of arts and beyond.

✨ To our students: Keep dreaming, keep creating. To our parents: Thank you for walking this journey with us. Together, we are building futures worth celebrating.
✨ Tatak SPA.

FORGING FORWARD IN THE ARTS:

Four mentors from the Special Program in the Arts (SPA) of Mahaplag National High School took part in the Three-Day Live-Out Orientation-Training Workshop for the Curriculum Implementers of the SPA and SPS, held last July 9–11, 2025, at Bato School of Fisheries, Bato, Leyte.

The division-wide workshop brought together SPA and SPS implementers for a series of capacity-building sessions aimed at strengthening curriculum delivery, enhancing instructional strategies, and promoting consistency across special program offerings in schools. The activity featured lectures, collaborative planning, and actual teaching demonstrations anchored on the K to 12 curriculum standards.

Mahaplag NHS was represented by four SPA mentors specializing in Music-Arts, Dance-Arts, Visual Arts, and Creative Writing. Of the four, three attended as participants, one of whom was selected to serve as a demonstration teacher, while another took on the role of learning facilitator during the entire workshop.

The training provided an opportunity for the mentors to deepen their understanding of the SPA framework, exchange best practices with fellow implementers, and reflect on the unique needs of learners in the arts.

Insights and strategies gained from the workshop are expected to support the continuous improvement of SPA instruction at Mahaplag NHS, as the school remains committed to nurturing artistic talent and delivering quality arts education to its learners.

The Special Program in the Arts of Mahaplag National High School extends its deepest gratitude to Ma'am Concepcion V Garzota in her guiding the mentors to participate in the growth-inducing activity, as well as to Sir Crisanto T. Daga for his ingenuous idea and innovation to push the program to greater heights.

In Excelsis Deo.
