The University Student Council formally calls upon all bona fide students of Bicol University to participate in the University-Wide Plebiscite for the ratification of the proposed USC Constitution and By-Laws (CBL).

The proposed CBL, duly approved by the General Legislative Council and collectively crafted through consultations, deliberations, and institutional processes, seeks to strengthen student governance, accountability, representation, and service within the university.

We highly encourage every student to exercise their right to vote and become part of this significant milestone in the history of student leadership and representation in the university.

⭐ 𝙈𝙜𝙖 𝙠𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙞𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙞𝙮𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖, 𝘽𝘼𝘽𝘼𝙀 𝙆𝘼, 𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝘽𝘼𝘽𝘼𝙀 𝙇𝘼𝙉𝙂 🌸

In a world where women are expected to only do what society expects for them, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥. Each of their respective discoveries and inventions represent every young girl who dreams of creating something that sustains life, something more than what the society envision for women in the field where their ideas are often disregarded, and if not, stolen.

As we honor 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s take a moment to appreciate these incredible women who serve as the faces of women in STEM in their specific fields.

🧬 𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐊𝐋𝐈𝐍
Her discovery on the density of DNA and, establishment that the molecule existed in a helical conformation in her pursuit to make clearer X-ray patterns of DNA molecules laid the foundation for James Watson and Francis Crick to suggest in 1953 that the structure of DNA is a double-helix polymer, a spiral consisting of two DNA strands wound around each other.

🧪 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐄 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐄
The 1896 discovery of radioactivity by Henri Becquerel inspired Marie and Pierre Curie to further investigate this phenomenon. They examined many substances and minerals for signs of radioactivity. They found that the mineral pitchblende was more radioactive than uranium and concluded that it must contain other radioactive substances. From it they managed to extract two previously unknown elements, polonium and radium, both more radioactive than uranium.

👩🏻‍💻 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐑
Grace Hopper earned a Ph.D. Mathematics at Yale in 1934, she revolutionized computer science by developing the first compiler (A-0) in 1952, which translated human-readable code into machine language. As a pioneer in programming, she created the first English-based data processing language, FLOW-MATIC, which paved the way for COBOL. She championed machine-independent programming and popularized the term "debugging".

🔭 𝐃𝐑. 𝐉𝐎𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐒𝐎𝐍
Dr. Simpson was the first female meteorologist to earn a doctorate, developed the first scientific model of clouds, discovered what keeps hurricanes whirling forward and revealed what drives the atmospheric currents in the tropics. She later conducted unique “weather modification” experiments and ran an international satellite project that measures tropical rainfall over the oceans, enterprises that continue to have significant impacts in the field. She worked for 30 years at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, where she was chief scientist for meteorology.

🖥️ 𝐀𝐃𝐀 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄
Most wealthy women of the 1800s did not study math and science. Ada Lovelace excelled at them—and became what some say is the world’s first computer programmer. When she was 17, Ada met mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage at a town party. She was fascinated by his Difference Engine, an early version of the calculator. He soon became her mentor. In 1835, Ada married William King, who became the Earl of Lovelace three years later, making her the Countess of Lovelace. They had three children, and even though most wives and mothers of the time worked only in the home, Ada Lovelace continued her work with Babbage. She created the first algorithm intended for processing by a machine, specifically Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine. Her notes in 1843 included a detailed, step-by-step method for calculating Bernoulli numbers, making her a pioneer of modern computing.

They remind us that women have the curiosity, determination, and capability to achieve anything. May they inspire us to continue the pursuit of lifelong learning and discovery.
