Official Statement Regarding Social Media Reports

The Divine Word College of Legazpi (DWCL) is aware of the concerns currently circulating on social media regarding an alleged incident of animal cruelty.

At this stage, these claims remain unverified, and no conclusive evidence has established any link between these reports and members of our community.

Guided by our commitment to responsibility and fairness, DWCL is looking into the matter with due diligence, in full adherence to due process and relevant legislation, including Republic Act No. 8485, as amended (The Animal Welfare Act). We believe that concerns of this nature must be approached with objectivity, care, and respect for the dignity and rights of all involved.

The public is assured that DWCL has long upheld its advocacy for the “care of creation” and firmly condemns all forms of animal cruelty.

Our institution remains dedicated to upholding truth, accountability, and compassion in every action we take.

We also gently encourage the public to exercise prudence and discernment in sharing information online, mindful of the impact that unverified claims may have on individuals and the broader community.

DWCL continues to stand by its mission of fostering a community grounded in integrity and deep respect for all living beings.

In view of the transport strike organized by CONDOR-PISTON Bicol, in-person classes on April 21–22, 2026 (Tuesday–Wednesday) at the Higher Education Division will shift to synchronous online classes.

The students’ retreat scheduled on these dates will proceed as planned.
