How to Discover Your Real Voice Type
(Bass, Tenor, Alto, Soprano)
Let’s clear this up. Your voice type is not what you wish you sounded like, it’s what your voice can do comfortably and consistently.
Here’s how to find yours the right way:
1. Start with comfort, not ego.
Your real voice lives where singing feels easy, not strained. If you’re forcing high notes, that’s not your type, that’s stress.
2. Check your natural speaking voice.
Your speaking pitch gives clues.
Deeper speaking voice → likely Bass/Alto
Higher speaking voice → likely Tenor/Soprano
3. Find your comfortable range.
Sit at a piano (or keyboard) and test notes slowly.
Where do you sound full, clear, and relaxed? That’s your “home base.”
4. Pay attention to tone, not just notes.
Two people can hit the same note but one sounds rich, the other sounds thin or forced.
Your voice type is about quality, not just range.
5. Stop guessing, train your voice.
Your voice reveals itself as you train it. Many people misclassify themselves because their technique is poor.
Truth is, most people are singing in the wrong range and blaming their voice.
So tell me, what do you think your voice type is right now?
Let’s figure it out together.
