4 BASIC STEPS TO A BETTER VOCABULARY

BE FAMILIAR WITH WORDS- Reading alone may not be enough to learn new words. You may encounter words that seem familiar to you but whose precise meanings you may really not know. Don't avoid these words. Make a daily practice of noting words and look up the dictionary for their meaning immediately. This may slow down your reading, but your understanding of each new word will eventually speed up your learning of other words, making reading easier.

READ A LOT- Reading is a way to find the words you should be learning. Find things to read you can enjoy and always have the idea of learning new words in mind.

USE A DICTIONARY- Online dictionaries and applications are widely available. It comes in very handy, so you can check the definition of the words in an instant. Remember that words can have multiple meanings. Might as well check them to understand the ways the word is used.

STUDY AND REVIEW REGULARLY- Enriching your vocabulary is simply a matter of reviewing regularly until the words are fixed in your memory. Be systematic about studying. Set a schedule and number of words to review every.

SIX SIMPLE TIPS ON IMPROVING YOUR ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION

1. Listen and imitate
-Listen to some short sentences or phrases and try to imitate the sounds, intonation, and word stress. Notice how your mouth and tongue move when you speak.

2. Record yourself
-You could record yourself speaking. Either repeating a short phrase that you have listened to, or doing a longer speaking task from a course book. Listen back and take note of any sounds that you have problems with. Practice these words or sounds slowly and then record yourself again.

3. Get to know the phonemic chart
-The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is a visual representation of different sounds. Thus, it will really help you with pronunciation.

4. Use a dictionary
-There are lots of online dictionaries where you can click and listen to the word being spoken. I suggest Cambridge dictionary.

5. Get to know your minimal pairs
-Minimal pairs are words that have almost the exact same pronunciation, but with one sound that is different. For example, ship and sheep. The first step is to be able to tell the difference between the sounds when you hear them.

6. Practice a lot
-Different languages have different sounds, and our mouths adapt to those sounds. Don't feel bad when you still mispronounce words. The more you practice this, the easier it gets.
