Research suggests that physical activity and sensory-motor experiences play an important role in child development, including attention and participation in daily activities. 🧸

This is why many occupational therapy activities involve movement, play, and sensory experiences, not just table work!

Potty training is an important developmental milestone, but children become ready at different times. Rather than focusing on age, it is helpful to look for signs that a child is physically, emotionally, and developmentally prepared. 💙

Vocabulary development doesn’t have to feel like a lesson 🗣️

Children learn new words best through everyday experiences. One helpful strategy is to expand what your child says. If they say one word, try adding one or two more words in response. This helps model language naturally without pressure!

Turn-taking is an important skill that helps children learn how to communicate, interact, and play with others. 🧸

One of the easiest ways to teach this is through simple, play-based activities at home. Games like catching a ball, building blocks, or puzzles help children understand the concept of “my turn” and “your turn.”

Start simple and follow your child’s pace!

Research shows that children learn language best through real-life interaction—talking, playing, and engaging with people. 🧡

Some studies have found that higher screen time is associated with slower language development, partly because it reduces the chance for back-and-forth communication.

That said, not all screen time is the same. The impact can vary depending on the child’s age, the content, and whether a parent is actively engaging with them during screen use.

In the end, screens can’t replace something essential: real conversations & interaction ✨

Looking for a simple activity you can do at home?
Try a DIY sensory bin 🧺

It may look like a basic play setup, but it actually helps develop your child’s focus, coordination, and sensory processing skills. And the best part? You can make one using items you already have at home!

Start simple, follow your child’s lead, and let them explore 🦉💚
