When it comes to foreigners over the past 5 years including Africans, Nepalis and Indians, they would say, "I like you. Do you like me too?". But my only experience with Filipino men if they ever ask anything resembling this question at all is, "You like me noh?" which means, "You like me, don't you?", which honestly sounds like an accusation rather than a question. And I'm forced to say yes when I really want to say no just to not offend them. 🤷♀️
It's like they all assume you already want them from the get-go and that you're just hoping for them to finally approve of you. It's like some clearance sheet you need to have signed for college. You need it signed and you just need to wait to find out if they will sign. Just wow. 😒
It will always be a shocking new concept to me the way foreigners including Indians actually consider if the woman is into them or if they fit her standards and would often say things like, "She deserves a handsome guy." or "Nobody likes me." or "They don't like my color.", because in Filipino culture, a woman has no say in whether she finds the guy attractive or not. So it will always be wild to me how guys tell me they stop pursuing me because, "I can clearly see that you're not interested in me.". They actually believe a relationship takes two to tango and both sides to have to want the other.
It's not like that at all in the Philippines. The fact alone that you're a woman means you are auditioning to be good enough to be their partner. I've had absolutely hideous guys who I wasn't even flirting with but just ended up in the same party with because of a mutual friend I was there for instead of them say lines like, "Don't you have anyone lighter-skinned?", as they including my male inviter would laugh. Or they would make comments about my facial features how they can only get intimate with me if they cover my face with a rug. And I've had guys I just joined with for a group get-together including with females rate me from a scale of 1-10 in front of my face and give me very low ratings. And they would laugh about who gets to sit beside me and would openly say they can't handle someone as "unattractive" as me being around. And no, they didn't target me. They've said worse things about other girls they rate during the party how she tasted when they got intimate with her. They'd say things like, "Oh, Sheila? I'd say 7. She's not pretty, but her body is so delicious. And she really knows how to do it. Like you will really be satisfied.".
And these aren't teenagers. These guys are like 40 now and include the professor during my community college in Bachelor of Information Technology. I've heard two male professors brag about their sexcapades with the Senior High students including in the bathroom. The other is 40 now. The other is like 46 this year.
And from all the ladies my age I've talked to, they will definitely testify that Filipino men approximately 35 to 45 also do the same to them. And these are hideous guys who look like they have dwarfism and these ladies are absolutely gorgeous and sexy. But Filipino guys will always find something to discount us over such as menstrual bloating just because we passed by them on our way out of a building and we don't even know their name.
I've actually seen this for myself when I was walking with a group of women and my morena friend was walking ahead of us. A guy on his parked motorcycle had to yell an insult at her. And the guy's about in his late 30s and 4'7" in height. I saw the same thing when 40-year old female friends walked with me and a group of guys probably older than them had to yell an insult regarding their age as they did a very forced, choreographed laugh which was just terrible acting and I would never cast them in any movie.
And I've had someone I thought was a friend advice me about the shaming, "Paano ko toh sasabihin? You look weird. Naku, Andie. Mga lalaki yun. Gusto kasi nila makasabi nang, 'Wow, Andie is so gorgeous.'. Kaya kung hindi ka gusto ganunin, you have to change yourself. Be presentable.".
In English, it means, "How do I say this? You look weird. Goodness, Andie. Those are men. They'd want to be able to say, 'Wow, Andie is so gorgeous.'. So if you don't want to be treated that way, you have to change yourself. Be presentable.".
And I don't even want to share a picture of the guy who said that. Plus, he's only tall enough to stand up to my chest, I'm not even exaggerating. And he's anorexic.
And I've had Filipino guys just try to do the act on me without my consent, because they think for simply being a woman I'm already auditioning for their approval, and their "yes" is already an honor I'm asking for. And this was after they first did discounting comments on my looks or personality and were like, "It's okay. I still accept you." before proceeding to try to do blatant assault as if I was hoping for it just to finally validate me.
So yeah, I don't know the concept of flirting back or showing that I'm interested. I always assumed that because you're the man, I'm just waiting for your "yes" and you're not waiting for mine.
