Call for Cambodian PhD Candidates: Mekong Crime Research Programme

PHNOM PENH – May 22, 2026 – Cambodian PhD researchers exploring issues related to transnational organized crime are invited to apply for the Mekong Career Accelerator Programme, organized by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) in collaboration with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the MNET-CTC programme.

Selected Cambodian participants will receive training and mentorship from international experts, fully funded access to regional in-person workshops and networking activities, opportunities to publish research with GI-TOC including academic publication support, online peer-learning sessions, and a certificate upon completion.
The programme aims to help Cambodian researchers enhance their research and analytical skills while connecting them with a strong regional network of scholars and professionals from neighboring Mekong countries.

Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme by June 1, 2026, conducting research related to criminality or transnational organized crime, and be a Cambodian citizen or based in Cambodia, with a valid passport and good English communication skills. Required documents include a CV, a motivation letter, and a research abstract related to the applicant's PhD research focus.

The application deadline is Friday, May 29, 2026, at 16:00 (Bangkok Time). The programme will run from September 2026 to May 2027 and includes in-person events, monthly online discussions, and final research presentations.
