It is funny how we are just as confused as the internet in this whole 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐯𝐬. 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 debate.

But in Data Science, whether you call it orange or Sharmaine, it has always been part of our identity.

It is the symbol of computation, innovation, creativity, and applied intelligence - the hood of a field built not only to study data, but to transform it into decisions that matter.

And in USTP, it became even more than that.

It became the mark first carried by the batches who helped give Data Science its place, its future, and its name.

Introducing 𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐑 𝐈, 𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐈, 𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐈𝐈, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐕 - the Data Science batches of 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

They were the first builders, the first risk-takers, and the first proof that something new was being built.

To our Pioneers, thank you for turning the beginning into a foundation.

Before we reveal the name for the next four batches, we honor the ones who wore the orange first.

𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 🌈

Regardless of gender identity or expression, you belong wherever you choose to be.

This Pride Month, we reaffirm our commitment to building inclusive spaces where every person is given access, opportunity, belonging, and community support.

As shown in this visualization, progress is not made by isolated points, but by communities moving together. In data science, every point contributes to the pattern. In society, every person contributes to the future we are building.

𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐃...𝐖𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 ⏳
One step closer to the cap and gown.

As our Fourth-Year BS Data Science students complete their DS421 Student Internship Program, they are not just finishing a requirement—they are learning how data science works in the real world.

From government offices and health services to telecom, energy, finance, engineering, and digital solutions, our students experienced one of the most important parts of data science: domain knowledge.

Because in industry practice, data science is never just about coding models. It is about understanding systems, asking the right questions, reading the context, and turning data into decisions that matter.

To our 2026 Industry Partners, thank you for opening your doors and helping our students see how data science becomes meaningful when applied to real problems, real sectors, and real communities.

To our interns: keep going.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫.

The grades are in, and from what we can already infer, this cohort is set to make history with a record-breaking 𝟗 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐬—the highest since the inception of the BS Data Science Program.

But this is not just about numbers, rankings, or medals.

Batches 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 carried the weight of being the Pioneers I, II, III, and IV—the first builders, first risk-takers, and first proof that Data Science had a place, a future, and a name in USTP.

Now, this graduating class opens a new era.

The first of the next four batches.
The first to inherit what the pioneers started.
And the first whose journey—before and beyond graduation—will help shape how the program evolves, revises, and reimagines itself in the next cycles.

The grades are in.
The stage is waiting.
The date is set.

And soon, we reveal the name of the batch that begins the next chapter.

June 25.
Something is graduating.
Something is beginning.

𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Just when you thought our third-year BS Data Science students were about to call it “quits” for finals week, they are drawing one more card for 𝐃𝐒𝟑𝟐𝟒: 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬—our newest introduced elective for this cohort.

For their final project presentation, they will showcase how workflow automation can level up into 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬—complete with simulation datasets, decision rules, dashboards, KPIs, and role-based simulations designed to support better, faster, and more evidence-based decisions.

Because in the game of decision support, it is not enough to simply throw your reverse cards. You have to 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.

Stay tuned for more details.

The spotlight is once again on our 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐁𝐒 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 students as they unlock 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑲𝒆𝒚 in their Machine Learning journey—presenting projects that transform data, algorithms, and models into solutions for real-world problems.

Now on its 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 under the same brand, this DS322 Machine Learning presentation continues a tradition we have long built in the program: giving students a platform to demonstrate not only what they have learned, but how they can use Machine Learning to think, decide, and create with purpose.

This year, we once again open our doors beyond the classroom—to students, professionals, educators, tech enthusiasts, industry partners, and changemakers who want to witness how future data scientists translate theory into intelligent, data-driven action.

For the first time, our 3rd Year BS Data Science students are bringing their Capstone and Research projects into a Technopreneurship Demo Day—turning early-stage ideas into startup directions.

Six groups will pitch innovation concepts in health, environment, safety, climate, and urban development, showing that data science is not only about models and systems, but about solutions that can serve, scale, and create impact.

This is where the university’s innovation ecosystem truly begins: from the ground up, with students learning to validate problems, build with purpose, and think beyond the classroom.

Grateful to our invited panelist judges and our Technopreneurship faculty Yul Jhon Jaranilla for helping sharpen these ideas and challenge our students to see their projects not only as academic outputs, but as possible ventures for real-world change.
