RCSDI and COBE Successfully Conduct Team Building and Strategic Planning Session for SY 2026โ2027
Northwestern Universityโs Research, Community, Social Development, and Internationalization Division and College of Business Education align strategic priorities for stronger institutional productivity
The Research, Community, Social Development, and Internationalization Division (RCSDI) and the College of Business Education (COBE) of Northwestern University successfully conducted their Team Building and Strategic Planning Session on May 26โ27, 2026 at Villa Letisha in Pasuquin Ilocos Norte, bringing together faculty members and personnel in a focused two-day activity aimed at strengthening teamwork, aligning institutional directions, and preparing strategic priorities for School Year 2026โ2027.
The activity provided a meaningful venue for reflection, collaboration, and planning as the two units reviewed their current accomplishments, identified areas for improvement, and developed concrete plans for the coming academic year. Guided by the theme of collaboration and shared accountability, the participants engaged in workshops, team-building activities, and planning sessions that emphasized unity, respect, active participation, and commitment to the mission of Northwestern University.
One of the major outputs of the session was the conduct of a SWOT Analysis, where participants identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats affecting the operations and future direction of RCSDI and COBE. The results of the analysis became the basis for determining strategic priorities and action plans that will guide the two units in improving their services, programs, and institutional contributions.
The planning session also allowed each unit and committee to identify its own strategic priorities for SY 2026โ2027. For research productivity, the group emphasized the need to strengthen faculty research mentoring, increase journal submissions, support conference presentations, and sustain the culture of publication among faculty and students. For community extension and social development, the participants highlighted the importance of implementing research-based extension programs, conducting needs assessments, and ensuring that outreach initiatives produce measurable and sustainable community impact.
In the area of internationalization, the group identified priorities related to student and faculty mobility, international joint lectures, COIL activities, visiting professor programs, and the strengthening of existing partnerships with foreign universities. For innovation and iHub development, the focus was placed on student innovation projects, startup mentoring, prototype development, innovation bootcamps, and stronger collaboration with external partners and government agencies.
Meanwhile, COBE identified priorities in academic program development, including curriculum enhancement, microcredentials, business analytics initiatives, entrepreneurship development, and student-centered learning activities. The group also recognized the need to strengthen student development through business research competitions, innovation challenges, leadership activities, employability programs, and increased student participation in academic and professional engagements.
Another important output of the session was the preparation of the Action Plan for SY 2026โ2027, which translated the identified strategic priorities into specific programs, activities, objectives, timelines, responsible persons, needed resources, and success indicators. The participants also worked on the Committee and Task Assignment Matrix, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of each committee in research and publication, community extension, internationalization, innovation, student development, documentation, and quality assurance.
To ensure preparedness and accountability, the participants developed a Risk and Issues Register, identifying possible challenges such as limited funding, low participation, schedule conflicts, weak documentation, and limited external partners. Corresponding mitigation strategies were discussed to ensure that planned programs and projects would be implemented efficiently and effectively.
The session also produced a Team Culture Agreement, which emphasized clear communication, accountability, collaboration, proper documentation, respect, and openness to innovation. Participants affirmed that the success of RCSDI and COBE depends not only on well-crafted plans but also on the willingness of every member to work together with professionalism, discipline, and shared purpose.
The two-day event concluded with an Individual and Team Commitment Session, where participants expressed their commitment to contribute actively to the goals of RCSDI, COBE, and Northwestern University. The activity ended successfully with a renewed sense of direction, stronger team spirit, and a shared commitment to advance research, community extension, social development, internationalization, innovation, and quality business education.
Through this strategic planning session, RCSDI and COBE reaffirmed their role as key drivers of institutional development and innovation at Northwestern University. The successful completion of the activity marks an important step toward a more coordinated, productive, and impact-driven School Year 2026โ2027
