Are you protecting your research and academic reputation from deceptive publishing practices? Predatory journals often misrepresent themselves by making false claims about their peer review processes, editorial boards, and impact metrics, primarily to collect article processing charges. By publishing in these unvetted outlets, researchers risk undermining the legitimacy and trustworthiness of their own hard work.
In this video, developed using NotebookLM, we provide a comprehensive guide to help you identify and avoid these academic traps so you can protect your reputation. You will learn how to spot common red flags, such as aggressive email solicitations, hidden fees, and exaggerated claims of publication prestige. We also highlight essential verification tools you can use to vet publishers more confidently, including the Think. Check. Submit. initiative and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
Watch until the end for a full list of references, and equip yourself with the knowledge needed to safeguard your scholarly work and academic reputation.

The MMSU College of Teacher Education Research Office congratulates Asst. Prof. Leonardo D. Tejano, MAEd, on the publication of his article, โDeconstructing the โBombโ: Legalistic Deterrence, Political Provocation, and Community Sentiment in Campus Crisis Messaging,โ in Corpus Pragmatics, a Scopus-indexed journal.
The study contributes to the growing scholarship on crisis communication by examining how language shapes institutional response, public perception, and community meaning-making during campus emergencies. Through its analysis of official statements, perpetrator messages, and community reactions to bomb threats in a Philippine university, the study underscores the importance of transparent, accountable, and context-sensitive communication in promoting campus safety and public trust.
