Balatong Integrated School successfully conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled“From Assessment to Action: Mastering Reading Remediation and Progress Logs at Balatong Integrated School” today, August 12, 2026. The activity gathered Secondary Reading Teachers and identified ARAL Tutors from the secondary department in a collaborative discussion focused on strengthening reading remediation initiatives and enhancing the effective use of progress logs to support learner development.

During the FGD, participants actively exchanged insights and best practices on implementing targeted reading interventions and maintaining accurate progress logs to monitor learner development. The session emphasized the importance of data-driven instruction, collaborative planning, and consistent documentation of learner progress. Teachers and tutors shared experiences, challenges, and recommendations that could further enhance the school's reading remediation program. The activity concluded with a renewed commitment among participants to strengthen support mechanisms for learners and ensure that assessment results are translated into meaningful instructional actions that promote reading success.

BIS breaks ground for Project BOOK-IT-KITAN

Laoag City, December 17, 2025 — Balatong Integrated School formally launched Project Book-it-kitan through a Groundbreaking Ceremony held today, marking the beginning of a project that aims to establish a Reading Hub for readers and learners. The activity was attended by Dr. Lourdes B. Arucan, Chief Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division, together with Mr. Jasper Domingcil, EPS in Learning Resources, Mr. Marju Miguel, EPS in TLE, and Ma’am Imelda Fatima Hernaez, all showing strong support for the promotion of reading and literacy.

Also present during the ceremony were Mr. Kevin Caesar Simon, BIS Alumni President; members of the Barangay Council of Brgy. 40 Balatong led by Brgy. Captain Engr. Joseph T. Bitagon; and Mr. Jessie Allado, Barangay Councilor and Education Committee in-charge of Brgy. 41 Balacad. The event was further graced by Architect Jasper Bonnao, the mind behind the design of the Project BOOK-IT-KITAN, Reading Hub, and Hon. Michael Christophe R. Agustin, President of PPSK Laoag City, along with school partners and stakeholders who continue to support programs that promote reading.

In his Opening Remarks, Mr. Jerrimie Arrieta highlighted the importance of providing learners with a safe, accessible, and inspiring space for reading and learning. He emphasized that Project Book-it-kitan is more than a physical structure, as it represents the collective effort of the school and the community to nurture young minds, develop lifelong readers, and strengthen support for quality education.

The ceremony was followed by a Dinner for a Cause, which aimed to raise funds for the implementation of Project BOOK-IT-KITAN. The fundraising activity was attended by stakeholders, parents, and barangay officials from the catchment barangays of Balatong Integrated School. At the end of the event, Teacher Fellow Monica Paypa delivered the words of gratitude, thanking everyone for their presence, generosity, and shared commitment to making the Reading Hub a meaningful and lasting project for the learners.

Makabuluhang Selebrasyon ng Kulminasyon ng 2025 Pambansang Buwan ng Pagbasa, Matatag na Adbokasiya!


Ipinagdiriwang ng buong komunidad-paaralan ng Balatong Integrated School ngayong araw, Disyembre 1, 2025 ang makabuluhang kulminasyon ng 2025 Pambansang Buwan ng Pagbasa sa ilalim ng temang “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa.”

Layunin ng aktibidad na higit pang mapagtibay ang adbokasiya sa literasiya sa pamamagitan ng mga gawaing nakatuon sa pagpapalakas ng kakayahan ng mga batang mambabasa.

Ipinakita sa pagdiriwang ang masiglang pakikiisa ng mga mag-aaral, g**o, at magulang bilang patunay ng sama-samang pagsuporta sa paglinang ng kultura ng pagbabasa sa paaralan.

Masayang binuksan ang programa sa pamamagitan ng parada na suot- suot nila ang kanilang mga Book Character Costumes na nagpapahiwatig ng kanilang pagmamahal sa pagbabasa bilang pundasyon ng pagkatuto at tagumpay sa hinaharap.

Ipinamalas ng mga piling mag-aaral ang kanilang kahusayan sa pagbasa ng mga akda sa Filipino at Ingles na nagbigay-inspirasyon sa kanilang mga kapwa mag-aaral.

Binati ni G. Jerrimie A. Arrieta, Punungg**o II, ang lahat ng kalahok at nagsabing, “Ang pagbabasa ay isang mahalagang kasanayan na dapat patuloy na paunlarin sa bawat batang Pilipino. Sa pagkakaisa ng mga g**o, mga magulang at kasamahang opisyales ng paaralan, patuloy na bibigyang-halaga ang adbokasiya sa pagpapaunlad ng literasiya ng mga kabataan.”

Ipinahayag ng Pampaaralang Koordineytor sa Pagbasa na si G. John Paul B. Gaspar na ang temang “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa” ay paalala na ang ang pagbabasa ay nagsisilbing tulay tungo sa isang kinabukasang mas maliwanag at puno ng pag-asa dahil nagbibigay ito ng kaalaman, inspirasyon, at higit na pagkakataon sa pag-unlad.

Binigyang-halaga rin ang papel ng mga magulang at tagapag-alaga sa paghubog ng gawi sa pagbabasa sa tahanan.

Nariyan din ang mga External Tutors para sa Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program na nagsisilbing kaagapay ng paaralan upang matugunan at magbigay ng tulong sa mga mag-aaral na nahihirapang magbasa upang sila’y makaintindi nang may pag-unawa.

Katuwang din ng Balatong Integrated School ang mga Teachers Fellows mula Teach for the Philippines, ang pagsusulong ng kahalagahan ng pagbabasa sa bawat mag-aaral. Layunin nilang makapagpatayo ng isang Reading Hub bago matapos ang kanilang misyon nang halos dalawang taon upang may maiwan silang magsisilbing alaala sa mga mag-aaral at may magamit na maayos na lugar para sa kanilang pagbabasa.

Maraming mag-aaral ang naghayag ng pagnanais na magbasa nang mas madalas matapos makita ang mga pagtatanghal at gawain na nagpapakita ng saya at kabuluhan ng pagbabasa.

Nagtapos ang pagdiriwang sa isang panawagan mula sa pamunuan ng paaralan na ipagpatuloy ang pagsusulong ng matatag na adbokasiya sa pagbabasa sa buong komunidad.

Ang mga g**o at magulang ay patuloy na lilikha ng mga oportunidad para palakasin ang karanasan sa pagbabasa ng bawat bata sa tahanan at paaralan.

Pinagtibay ng buong pagdiriwang na ang pagbabasa ay nananatiling sandigan ng kaalaman at pag-unlad tungo sa mas maliwanag na kinabukasan.

BIS launches ARAL Reading Program

Balatong Integrated School held a Learning Action Cell (LAC) session on the ARAL Program last August 20, 2025, facilitated by Mr. John Paul B. Gaspar. The Junior High School teachers actively participated in the meaningful discussions, gaining strategies and insights to better support learners and strengthen instruction.
