The Mariano Marcos State University College of Teacher Education Field Study Faculty are currently conducting monitoring for Rotation 2 of Field Study 1 (Teaching Observation) and Field Study 2 (Teaching Assistantship) among Field Study Students (FSSs) deployed in partner DepEd schools.

The monitoring, being conducted from September 21 to 25, 2026, covers schools under the Schools Division Offices (SDOs) of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and the City of Batac.

CTE Field Study Faculty are visiting the assigned schools to monitor the students’ field-based learning experiences, provide supervisory guidance, and coordinate with Resource Teachers regarding the students’ progress and participation in classroom activities.

The activity forms part of the college's continuing efforts to ensure quality, meaningful, and well-supported experiential learning for its teacher education students. Through regular school visits and supervisory conferences, students are given opportunities to connect their academic preparation with actual classroom practice.

The activity likewise strengthens the collaborative partnership between MMSU-CTE and its DepEd partner schools, supporting a shared commitment to meaningful field experiences for future educators.

Mariano Marcos State University through MMSU College of Teacher Education, in partnership with the City Government of Laoag, officially launched Project Lawagenyo (Livelihood Advancement for Women and Girls Empowering Next-Gen Youth), a sustainable livelihood initiative aimed at expanding economic opportunities for women, at a training program attended by members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) from various barangays in Laoag City.

A total of 35 KALIPI members participated in the training, which focused on equipping women with practical skills in product development, entrepreneurship, and digital marketing to strengthen their participation in local economic activities.

The program opened with messages from MMSU and city officials, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing inclusive and community-driven development. Ms. Perlita Cabello, head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), emphasized that the project is supported by sufficient funding and is expected to expand through continued partnerships under the leadership of City Mayor James Bryan Alcid. She also emphasized the significance of strengthening ties between the local government and MMSU in sustaining the initiative.

Building on this vision, MMSU CTE Dean Dr. Ronald Candy S. Lasaten delivered words of challenge to both the participants and project proponents. He said this initiative is not merely a short-term activity but a core embodiment of CTE’s institutional commitment to uplifting community livelihoods. Dr. Lasaten also said it is high time for CTE, as a Center of Excellence, to make its presence genuinely visible and deeply felt within the partner communities and urged the organizers to ensure long-term impact through continuous monitoring, while encouraging the participants to fully leverage the training to build resilient, self-sustaining enterprises that transform their families and communities.

Further reinforcing the program’s vision, Ms. Nataliza Lapitan, head of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, stressed the value of women empowerment, emphasizing that the project aims to equip local women with practical, market-ready skills for sustainable entrepreneurship.

Project proponent Mrs. Jean A. Arellano introduced the framework of the initiative through the STEP-UP model, which integrates socio-economic growth, cultural preservation, environmental protection, progressive digitalization, and people empowerment. This framework guided the series of training sessions conducted during the program.

Faculty members from MMSU-CTE facilitated training sessions on various aspects of livelihood and entrepreneurship, including product creation, wearable design, and the use of information and communication technology (ICT) tools to enhance business practices. Participants were introduced to strategies for marketing their products beyond traditional means, emphasizing the role of digital platforms in expanding market reach.

A formal memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between MMSU and the City Government of Laoag marked the official partnership for the implementation of Project Lawagenyo, solidifying both institutions’ commitment to sustaining and expanding the initiative.

MMSU President Dr. Virgilio Manzano expressed the university’s commitment to the project, emphasizing that its implementation will go beyond a one-time engagement. He noted that through the collective efforts of faculty members and stakeholders, the initiative aims to be expanded across Ilocos Norte.

Through Project Lawagenyo, MMSU continues to strengthen its role in community extension by providing relevant, sustainable, and empowering programs that support women’s development and contribute to local economic growth.

𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | 𝐌𝐌𝐒𝐔 𝐂𝐓𝐄 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

To bridge basic education and higher education instruction, the Mariano Marcos State University College of Teacher Education launched Project PATHWAY: Promoting Advancement of Teachers from Elementary to Worthwhile Academic Years at the CTEx Hall on September 10, 2026.

Led by activity leaders, Early Childhood and Special Needs Education Department (ECSNED) Chair Dr. May Flor C. Rivera and Elementary Education Department (EED) Chair Dr. Gina Sylvia S. Gaoat, together with the faculty members of the two departments, the initiative aims to build a strong continuous path for Laboratory Elementary School (LES) faculty members to transition into higher education teaching roles through structured mentorship and capacity-building.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Rivera emphasized the rich classroom experience of LES educators and the importance of providing them with opportunities for academic growth. Dr. Gaoat presented the project rationale, outlining its purpose of aligning basic education expertise with the expectations of teacher education programs.

The launch featured an Orientation-Cum-Team Building activity with two major capacity-building sessions:

CTE Dean Dr. Ronald Candy S. Lasaten discussed "Strengthening Curriculum Mapping and Alignment: Updates and Directions," focusing on aligning educational outcomes, content, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.

College Research Coordinator Prof. Leonardo D. Tejano and Extension Coordinator Dr. Imelda L. Najorda facilitated "Building Collaborative Partnerships in Research and Extension," encouraging faculty members to engage in university scholarly activities and community outreach initiatives.

Participants later engaged in specialization-based focus groups serving as communities of practice to discuss transition expectations, identify areas for growth, and build peer support networks between LES and CTE faculty.

The activity concluded with a synthesis by University Laboratory Schools Principal Prof. Philistia Mercuria P. Bagayas and a presentation of the ways forward by Planning and Development Coordinator Dr. Leizel A. Concepcion.

Through Project PATHWAY, MMSU CTE reinforces its commitment to empowering educators, fostering professional advancement, and driving academic excellence across the university. The initiative stands as one of the key projects supporting the College's Mentoring Framework, which was officially approved during the last College Academic Council meeting.
