Dusk off the month-old, can't-remember-when-you-last-read books on your shelves and start going through its pages because it's that time of the year again!
As stipulated in 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗘𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟰𝟰, the month of 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 is designated for the celebration of the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡. Celebrated annually, the event aims to promote the love for reading as well as to raise the levels of reading comprehension especially among students.
November is National Reading Month with the theme, "Rediscovering the Legacy of Literature through Reading."
"Literature allows us to be in the shoes of somebody else and imagine what it is like... In many ways, literature is like a game where you are pretending, or playing, and going through the experiences of others. It’s not real, it’s fictional, but it allows you to prepare yourself in case something similar occurs to you,”
"Literature is a repository of our cultural values and experiences and the ideas of those who preceded you. It is also a way by which we open up our imagination to what might not be ideal in our current circumstance and allows us, hopefully, imagine alternative arrangements for a better future. It has an imaginary function, heritage and legacy function and utopic function for a better future.”
