The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) has carried the same flame lit by its founder a hundred and fifty-one years agoโ a fire of faith that refused to stay within convent walls, venturing instead into the barrios, classrooms, and underserved corners of the world. Today marks a milestone; a testament to missionaries who chose the difficult road of service. What they planted has grown beyond their years, a reminder that a life given for others can shape a future far beyond oneโs own.
Within the halls of the Divine Word College of Laoag, Inc. (DWCL), that vision lives on in Divinians formed through knowledge and character, taught to see learning itself as an act of faith. Every classroom moment, every organization, and every small gesture of kindness reflects the values that have taken root here. In this way, DWCL stands as a living proof of what those early missionaries set in motionโ a harvest seen in lives shaped by faith, learning, and a commitment to serve.
As the community celebrates its 151st year, it is also given a chance to reflect on what it means to carry that spirit into the years ahead. The event was not simply a celebration of the past, but a renewal of commitmentโ a reminder that a calling, once given, never truly ends; it lives on through those who choose to answer it. Every Divinian, in this light, becomes a living continuation of that legacy, allowing belief to speak through action long after the celebration has ended, and living out the call to be โWitnesses to the Word.โ
