NWU Marks Milestone with First International Academic Discussion on AI-Ready Universities

Northwestern University (NWU) is set to mark an important milestone in its internationalization and academic engagement efforts with the conduct of its first International Academic Discussion, in partnership with Sanjivani University, India, on October 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

The one-hour university-to-university dialogue, titled “AI-Ready Universities: Transforming Academic Programs for the Future of Work,” will bring together academic leaders and representatives from Northwestern University and Sanjivani University to exchange perspectives on how higher education institutions can respond to the rapidly changing demands of an artificial intelligence-driven world.

Unlike a traditional webinar, the activity is designed as a structured academic discussion in which representatives from both institutions will share institutional experiences, disciplinary perspectives, emerging practices, and possible strategies for preparing students and faculty for the future of work.

The discussion will focus on four major areas: the competencies graduates will need in an AI-driven workplace; how universities should redesign curricula and academic programs for the AI era; how artificial intelligence may transform teaching, assessment, research, and the role of faculty; and the sharing of institutional practices and potential areas for collaboration between NWU and Sanjivani University.

A key feature of the activity is the participation of Northwestern University’s College Deans, who will contribute concise, college-based perspectives during the discussion. Their inputs are expected to reflect the varying needs of academic disciplines and provide practical recommendations on AI literacy, curriculum innovation, faculty development, assessment reform, research, and future-ready competencies.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Community, Social Development and Internationalization, led by Prof. Eric S. Parilla, MScM, MABA, DBA, FBE. The activity forms part of the University’s continuing efforts to expand meaningful international academic engagement and provide platforms for institutional learning, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.

Through the dialogue, NWU and Sanjivani University will also explore possible collaborative initiatives such as joint research, faculty and student engagement, curriculum benchmarking, international virtual exchanges, microcredentials, and AI-related academic projects.

The event represents a significant development for Northwestern University as it introduces an International Academic Discussion format that moves beyond one-way presentations and emphasizes reciprocal exchange between partner institutions.

By initiating its first international academic discussion on a timely and transformative topic, Northwestern University strengthens its commitment to innovation, internationalization, and future-ready education. The activity also underscores the University’s growing role in creating academic spaces where global partners can jointly examine emerging challenges and identify practical responses for higher education.

At the center of the discussion is a shared question facing universities worldwide: How can higher education remain relevant, human-centered, and responsive in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence?

For Northwestern University, this first international academic discussion provides an opportunity not only to address that question, but also to deepen international collaboration and contribute actively to shaping the future of university education.

On September 19, 2026, 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 participated in an engaging Information Literacy Session at the NWU Educational Resource Center (NWUERC), guided by Dr. Maricon M. Guillermo, with the theme:“𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐕𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲: 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐖𝐔𝐄𝐑𝐂 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬.”

The session strengthened students’ skills in finding and evaluating reliable sources, navigating print and electronic resources, databases, and the OPAC, and applying 𝐀𝐏𝐀 𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 for proper citation and documentation. Participants were also introduced to 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐋𝐢𝐒𝐀), available through the NWUERC website, 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐑𝐋, scholarly articles, and other credible sources to support their research.

Good research is not just about finding information—it’s about finding the right information, evaluating it critically, and giving proper credit to the sources used.

NWU, DLSU-D forge three-year academic partnership

Northwestern University (NWU) and De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) strengthen academic cooperation through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding that opens opportunities in education, research, extension, community engagement, and sustainability.

NWU President Atty. Ferdinand S. Nicolas and DLSU-D President Br. Iñigo R. Riola FSC, EdD sign the agreement during a virtual ceremony on September 15, establishing a framework for collaboration across all academic disciplines.

Under the agreement, NWU and DLSU-D may undertake academic benchmarking, faculty and student mobility programs, joint seminars and guest lectures, institutional visits, fieldwork, and community-based initiatives.

The partnership also opens opportunities for collaborative research, co-authored publications, funded projects, and the shared use of facilities. The universities may establish research clusters in priority areas such as sustainability, governance, health, technology, and cultural heritage.

“As an alumnus of La Salle Green Hills, I am happy to be creating this linkage with De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, knowing that both of our institutions can learn many things from one another,” Nicolas said.

He expressed particular interest in learning from DLSU-D’s sustainability practices and applying relevant approaches at NWU.

“One thing I am especially interested in is the recognition of DLSU-D as the most sustainable university in the Philippines by UI GreenMetric. This is something we want to emulate in line with our advocacy for environmental protection and conservation,” Nicolas added.

The MOU also identifies possible cooperation in digital transformation, renewable energy, governance, and cultural heritage. It allows the institutions to explore interdisciplinary programs and dual-degree opportunities, subject to regulatory approval.

Joint extension and outreach projects may also be developed to support communities in Ilocos Norte and Cavite, particularly in education, sustainability, health, and social responsibility.

Specific activities under the partnership will be formalized through separate agreements, project proposals, or addenda. Both universities will designate focal offices or coordinators to oversee implementation and monitoring.

The MOU will remain effective for three years and may be renewed upon mutual agreement.
