Sometimes, the plan looks simple on paper. You set a goal, prepare the requirements, submit the documents, and hope that everything falls into place.
But reality rarely follows a straight road.
After three years of teaching in the Department of Education, I finally decided to take a chance and apply for a higher teaching position. Fom Teacher II to Teacher V. This is my first time going through the process, and I honestly did not expect it to be this challenging.
There were new systems to understand, documents to prepare, requirements to complete, and standards I had to learn along the way. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, especially when resources were limited, funds were running low, and I had to figure out how to make things work with what I had.
There were times when I questioned whether I was ready.
But somewhere between the pressure, exhaustion, and uncertainty, I also realized something important: growth does not always look graceful.
Sometimes, growth looks like staying up late to finish documents. It looks like asking questions because you do not know everything yet. It looks like adjusting to unfamiliar systems, making mistakes, learning from them, and continuing even when your budget is already stretched thin.
And thankfully, I am not walking this road completely alone. I am grateful for colleagues who offered their time, advice, encouragement, and support when I needed them most. Sometimes, having people who simply say, “You can do this,” makes the difficult days a little lighter.
I do not know what the outcome of this application will be.
Maybe I will be promoted. Maybe this is not yet my time.
But whatever happens, I will be proud that I tried.
Because sometimes success is not immediately reaching the finish line. Sometimes it is having the courage to start, even when you know the road will be difficult.
If this opportunity is meant for me, I will receive it with gratitude. If not, I will carry everything I learned from this experience into the next opportunity.
The plan may look simple.
The reality may be difficult.
But the journey itself is already shaping me into a stronger teacher and a more determined version of myself
