The AB Political Science Program, in partnership with the University of La Salette Graduate School, conducted a Leadership Extension Activity for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials from the barangays of Nayon and Bimpal, Lamut, Ifugao alongside student leaders from the program.

The activity emphasized the importance of responsive leadership, effective decision-making, and community-centered governance, further enriched by the insights shared by the resource speakers.

Through partnerships and meaningful community engagement, the AB Political Science Program continues to promote leadership development, civic participation, and learning through service to the community.

The AB Political Science Program expresses its gratitude to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials of Nayon and Bimpal, the student leaders, and our valued partners from the University of La Salette Graduate School for making this meaningful extension activity possible.

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science program of the College of Arts and Sciences, Ifugao State University – Lamut Campus, has attained Level III Accreditation from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

Following the rigorous evaluation conducted during the 3rd Survey Phase 2 Revisit, the program demonstrated strong performance across key areas, including instruction, extension, and faculty development. This achievement affirms the program’s adherence to national standards and its continued commitment to quality education, academic excellence, and meaningful community engagement.

The accreditation is valid from February 1, 2026 to January 31, 2030, signifying sustained compliance with national standards and best practices in higher education. The accreditation outcome further recognizes the program’s substantial compliance with all mandatory recommendations, reinforcing its academic and institutional foundations. It also highlights the program’s ongoing efforts to enhance its instruction, research, and extension initiatives in pursuit of sustained excellence.

The achievement is attributed to the collective efforts of the university administration, faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and community partners, whose sustained commitment has supported the program’s continued development.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | 𝟭𝟮 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗦𝗖𝗜 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣 𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖 𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗢

Twelve Bachelor of Arts in Political Science interns from Ifugao State University (IFSU) successfully completed their Internship 2 at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Baguio City Office on April 11, 2026, under the supervision of Acting Election Officer IV and concurrent Regional Election Attorney, Atty. Romeo L. Aguilar Jr.

Throughout their deployment, and under the close guidance of Election Assistants, the interns were immersed in the daily operations of the office. They assisted clients, processed voter registration forms, verified voter records, and organized official election documents,tasks that introduced them to the administrative backbone of electoral service delivery.

More than a requirement for academic completion, the internship became a formative professional experience that deepened their understanding of public service, discipline, and accountability,its core principles that define electoral governance and democratic integrity.

“The internship taught us that every document processed is part of a larger responsibility of protecting the credibility of elections,so far maganda nman", Mr. Kent Albert Bayninan said.

Mr. Jimmy Pinocyahan reflected on the experience, "we learned how to remain composed under pressure, especially during peak workloads, and how teamwork plays a vital role in ensuring efficient public service.”

Ms. Melvie Tayaban also shared her realization, stating, “At first, we were nervous handling official documents, but eventually we learned that confidence comes with responsibility and proper guidance sa mga EA namin.”

Moreover, Ms. Tracy Dulnuan underscored the value of transparency describing interning at COMELEC was a challenging yet rewarding experience. "Assisting with voter registration taught me the value of transparency and patience in public service. It deepened my commitment to electoral integrity and showed me how local governance impacts the community."

As the internship concluded, the students expressed gratitude to the COMELEC Baguio Office for the opportunity to work within a professional government environment. “In every form we handled and every citizen we assisted, we came to understand that public service is not just about compliance—it is about trust, and trust is the foundation of democracy,” said Ms. Ezrahlynne Habbiling.

The fourth-year students of the AB Political Science Program, class of 2026, have successfully completed their internship deployment across various government and legal institutions, including the City Government of Baguio, Santiago City Government, the Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service in Nueva Vizcaya, the Public Attorney’s Office, and several law firms in Nueva Vizcaya.

The internship program provided students with hands-on experience in public administration, legal processes, and governance, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world institutional settings. Through their deployment, students were exposed to the practical demands of public service, professional conduct, and organizational dynamics within government and legal offices.

While a significant number of interns have already completed their required hours, several students are still in the process of completing their internship and are expected to finish by April 24, 2026.

This milestone reflects the program’s continued commitment to experiential learning and the development of future public servants equipped with practical skills, professional values, and a deeper understanding of governance. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 | 𝟲 𝗔𝗕𝗣𝗦 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡 𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗟 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗬𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧

Six fourth-year AB Political Science students of Ifugao State University are currently undergoing their Internship 2 at the office of Congresswoman Leila De Lima, representative of the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist, in Quezon City.

Internship 2 is not just a course requirement, but is designed to provide students with hands-on field experience, bridging classroom theories with real-world applications. Through this, interns are immersed in various legislative and administrative processes, including legislative drafting, policy analysis, legal research, and office operations. This also allows students to observe governance in practice, highlighting accountability mechanisms, grassroots engagement, and the delivery of public service.

Mr. Jeremiah D. Patacsil, one of the interns shared that the experience has been nothing short of exciting.
“So far, I’m really happy to be in the office,” he shared. “Seeing how laws are made on a national level is exhilarating. What I appreciate most is that our supervisor actually teaches us skills we can use beyond the internship. We’re not just here to do small tasks, we’re really involved in the legislative process.”

Meanwhile, fellow intern Mr. Kevin Alfred P. Kindipan echoed the same enthusiasm. “One of the best experiences so far,” he said. “Mas eager pa sila magturo sa amin. They really put in effort to teach us their advocacy and how their work actually happens. This is the best example of putting theory into practice.”

"It's a humbling experience, indeed. To step beyond the confines of the classroom and encounter the realities of the broader world really humbled me. It reminded me of the limits of what I know and the vast learning opportunities that lie ahead", expressed Miss Cassandra B. James, another intern.

As the internship continues, these students are not just completing a requirement but also gaining experiences that could shape their future careers in governance, policy-making, and public service. #
