Today, our School DRRM Officers participated in a meaningful and engaging seminar featuring the research work of our Teacher Intern Sir Lyod Franklin Francisco from Benguet State University-CTE. He introduced the board game they personally developed for their research entitled Skills of Survival, designed to help students learn and understand disaster preparedness and essential survival skills in an interactive and enjoyable way.

Through this innovative game-based approach, our SDRRM Officers were able to actively participate, think critically, and strengthen their awareness on safety and preparedness. The seminar was facilitated by Sir Ashley Uenises Limpayos, making the activity both informative and impactful for our student leaders.

With earthquakes being felt in different parts of the country, our school conducted an earthquake drill to remind everyone how important it is to be prepared. Being ready helps us stay calm, think clearly, and protect ourselves and others when an earthquake happens. Preparedness can make a real difference in keeping everyone safe.

CONGRATULATIONS! to our young artist who proved that preparedness can also be painted with a heart. She brought the theme โ€˜KUMIKILOS: Kayang umaksyon ng mamamayan na isabuhay ang kahandaan ng bawat isa para maging ligtas sa oras ng sakunaโ€™ to life and proudly won 2nd place at the La Trinidad MDRRM Poster Making Contest!

Thank you, Precious Jewel Mica P. Pudin (Grade 9 Alnus), for carrying our schoolโ€™s name with pride. We are truly proud of you! ๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿ™Œ

Later today, September 11, the Philippines will once again conduct a ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ต๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น (๐—ก๐—ฆ๐—˜๐——), which aims to prepare citizens for possible strong earthquakes in the future. This isnโ€™t just about the โ€˜Big Oneโ€™ in Metro Manila; strong tremors strike different regions across the country from time to time as well.

Crisscrossed by active faults and surrounded by tectonic trenches, the Philippine archipelago is one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. According to PHIVOLCS, the country records an average of 20 earthquakes daily, though most are too weak to be felt. Still, history has shown that the Philippines is no stranger to powerful and destructive quakes.

An earthquake map based on data from the U.S. Geological Survey (1975โ€“2024), while not capturing every minor tremor, reveals that nearly every region, from Extreme Northern Luzon to BARMM, has experienced seismic activity. The notable exception is Palawan, which has remained relatively quiet in terms of recorded earthquakes.

Itโ€™s important to remember that earthquakes themselves rarely kill; itโ€™s the secondary effects, such as collapsing structures, landslides, tsunamis, fires, and flooding, that pose the gravest risks. Strengthening awareness, preparedness, and infrastructure is essential to saving lives.
