Benguet State University (BSU) Graduate School successfully kicked off the academic year by conducting its General Orientation and Seminar 2026 last August 15, 2026.
Held through a seamless hybrid setup that gathered students both onsite and online, the event centered on the inspiring theme, โEmpowering Graduate Students to Lead, Innovate, and Transform Communities through Research and Professional Excellence.โ The program officially opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Janet P. Pablo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, followed by a motivational message from University President Dr. Kenneth A. Laruan. President Laruan reminded the attendees that graduate education extends far beyond earning a degree, challenging them to produce research that addresses real-world problems and innovations that offer practical solutions for community transformation.
To fully equip the graduate students for their academic journey, the orientation featured comprehensive presentations from various university offices. Representatives discussed essential student resources, including the library, registrar, health, and student services. The seminar component then dove deep into the core mechanics of responsible, high-impact research. Dr. Apler Bansiong guided students through the intricacies of preparing and publishing research outputs for academic journals, while Dr. Pelin Be**no emphasized the vital role of ethical principles and responsible conduct in scholarly work. Additionally, Atty. Ruth Lalio provided critical guidance on data privacy, ensuring students understand the proper handling and protection of data in their academic pursuits.
The event also served as an interactive platform for open discussion, allowing students to raise active clarifications, particularly regarding research policies, ethics, and campus health services.
Highlighting the event was the official introduction of the restructured Graduate School leadership, which aims to strengthen coordination across the university. The new structure features Graduate School Dean Dr. Imelda G. Parcasio, PhD, Associate Dean Dr. Joseph Quinto, and the Graduate School College Coordinators working alongside their respective College Deans.
Concluding the successful event, Dr. Parcasio reaffirmed the university's steadfast commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering BSU graduate scholars to lead with purpose and innovate with impact.
