Support, Awareness, Friendship, and Expression (SAFE): Creating an Open and Safe Space for Emotional Well-Being Among Senior Citizens
The Itogon Municipal Health Services Office successfully conducted a two-day Mental Health Awareness Activity for senior citizens on May 27 at Binga Recreation Hall and May 28, 2026 at ITC, Tuding. The activity was organized in partnership with the King’s College of the Philippines – College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts, with the participation of senior citizens from nine barangays of Itogon.
The program aimed to strengthen mental health awareness and emotional wellness among senior citizens while recognizing their continued importance in the community. Facilitators from College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts, King’s College of the Philippines facilitated the activity, including Ms. Kaiza Caballero, BS Psychology Coordinator; Ms. Perlita Panganiban, BS Social Work Instructor; Ms. Ma. Lourdes Rosal Aurelio, BS Social Work Coordinator; Ms. Equinia Walsi-en, Associate Dean; and Dr. Dina Teresita P. Balaan, Dean.
Meaningful lectures were conducted focusing on the rights, benefits, and laws for senior citizens. Discussions highlighted that aging is not the end of one’s purpose, but rather a stage enriched with wisdom, resilience, experiences, and valuable contributions that continue to inspire the community.
In line with the SAFE theme, participants engaged in various workshops and activities designed to encourage emotional expression, self-reflection, and social connection in a supportive environment. Senior citizens openly shared their personal stories, reflections, and life achievements, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation among participants.
The activity also featured emotional expression interactive exercises where participants were encouraged to communicate their feelings freely and creatively. As part of the program, they wrote down their dreams, hopes, and wishes, which were later displayed through a collective “Tree of Dreams” symbolizing hope, unity, and positivity among the senior citizens.
To further promote emotional well-being, relaxation and mindfulness exercises were conducted to help participants reduce stress, improve focus, and experience inner calm. Through group interactions and collaborative activities, participants were also able to build supportive friendships and strengthen social connections within the community.
The event concluded with heartfelt reflections and messages of gratitude from both participants and organizers. Senior citizens were recognized not only as pillars of their families but also as active leaders, mentors, and valuable contributors to society.
In his message, Dr. Oliver P. Guadaña, emphasized that mental health remains one of the top priorities in healthcare today. He also underscored the important role of senior citizens as advocates and support systems for the younger generation in promoting health and holistic well-being in the community.
The successful conduct of the activity reflects the continued commitment of the Municipal Health Services Office and its partners including King's College of the Philippines in fostering inclusive programs that promote mental wellness, empowerment, and meaningful engagement among senior citizens.

“Equipped to Transform: Strengthening Psychological Practice for Global Change”
April 24, 2026 | Day 5 marked a truly special milestone as 92 BS Psychology students, alongside 2 alumni, the Dean, and Psychology instructor, came together for the very first KCP Psynergy Night—a night that became more than just a memory, but a moment of becoming.
The evening unfolded with warmth and excitement—from the welcoming message of the Dean and the participants’ grand entrance, to the fun-filled getting-to-know-you games and the much-awaited Best Dressed ramp. Each moment reflected the vibrant spirit of the psychology community.
A heartfelt tribute was dedicated to our graduands, who received tokens of appreciation—a journal booklet and a deeply personal letter they had written last year to their first-year selves. Messages of inspiration filled the night, coming from lower-year BS Psych students, alumni, the graduands, and the Dean—each one echoing growth, resilience, and purpose.
The celebration continued with shared laughter over food, singing and Psyclips presentation, and the energetic Psynergy community dance that brought everyone together in unity. The night concluded with an awarding ceremony and photo opportunities, capturing memories that will last a lifetime.
Indeed, Psynergy Night was a beautiful reminder that transformation is not just a goal—it is a journey we take together.
