๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐จ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ|| Behind every Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and hope. For one former OFW teacher from La Trinidad, Benguet, that story came full circle through the Sa Pinas, Ikaw ang Ma'am at Sir (SPIMS) Program, allowing her to return home and fulfill her lifelong dream of serving Filipino learners.
During the Bayanihan para sa Balikbayang Manggagawa National Reintegration Network (BBM-NRN) and Job Fair led by the Department of Migrant Workers-Cordillera Administrative Region (DMW-CAR) last June 16, 2026, at the Baguio City Convention Center, teacher Glaiza Rose T. Agwilang shared her inspiring testimony before fellow OFWs, government officials, and partners. Her story served as a powerful reminder that reintegration is not merely about returning home- it is about rebuilding lives, reuniting families, and rediscovering one's purpose.
Years before becoming a public-school teacher, she faced the same struggles experienced by many aspiring educators. Despite earning her teaching license, limited opportunities and the realities of supporting her family compelled her to seek employment outside the country. She worked various jobs before taking a leap of faith and traveling to Thailand, where she eventually established a successful teaching career.
For seven years, she taught in Bangkok, earning the respect of colleagues and students while becoming an active member of the Filipino community abroad. Yet behind the professional success were the silent sacrifices familiar to many OFWs - the loneliness of being far from loved ones, missing family milestones, and enduring life's challenges away from home.
When the time came to return to the Philippines and start a family with her husband, uncertainty loomed. The prospect of leaving a stable career abroad for an uncertain future back home was daunting. However, fate led her to discover the SPIMS Program, a government initiative designed to help qualified OFW teachers transition into the Philippine public school system.
Through the program, her years of teaching experience abroad were recognized and valued. The support and guidance she received throughout the process opened a new chapter in her life. In January 2017, she officially entered the gates of La Trinidad National High School, Benguet - not as an applicant, but as a newly hired Teacher 1.
Looking back, she described the opportunity as life-changing. "๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐บ๐ท๐ฐ๐ด๐บ, ๐ฐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐

Today, she serves as a Teacher VI through the Expanded Career Progression (ECP), turning years of hard work, perseverance, and continuous learning into a remarkable career milestone. As she continues to shape young minds and inspire future generations, her story stands as a powerful reminder that opportunities created through government support can help returning OFWs rebuild their dreams, excel in their chosen profession, and make a lasting impact on nation-building.
The SPIMS Program, led by the DMW and in partnership with DepEd, has provided opportunities for former OFW teachers to continue their teaching careers in the country, bringing home not only their skills and experiences but also their passion for shaping the future of Filipino children.
As the nation continues to honor the contributions of overseas Filipino workers, stories like hers embody the true spirit of reintegration - bringing teachers home, reuniting families, and building the nation one learner at a time.
"The Philippines needs you. Our Filipino learners need your worldly perspective, your courage, and your heart," Teacher Glaiza said in her message to fellow OFW teachers.
Through SPIMS, what was once a distant dream became a reality - a journey home that transformed sacrifice into service and hope into purpose.
