House Approves Bill Extending PRC ID Validity to 5 Years
The House of Representatives has approved on second reading a measure extending the validity of Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) identification cards from three years to five years. The proposal aims to lessen the time, cost, and effort required from millions of Filipino professionals who regularly renew their licenses.
Under House Bill No. 8876, Professional Identification Cards (PICs) issued by the PRC will be valid for five years, as long as existing legal and procedural requirements are met. The measure also directs the PRCβs Information and Communication Technology Service to upgrade its Licensure Examination Registration Information System and related processes within six months after the law takes effect.
Lawmakers said the bill supports the governmentβs push to improve public services and reduce red tape, in line with efforts of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to modernize government systems. Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said the longer validity period would allow professionals such as teachers, nurses, engineers, architects, and accountants to focus more on their work instead of repeated renewals. House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos Jr. added that the measure would help save time and money, reduce long queues, and make government services more efficient and convenient.
