🌿 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 🌿

Every August 9, we celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a special day that reminds us to value, respect, and appreciate the culture, traditions, knowledge, and identity of Indigenous Peoples. As this is one of the goals of Watwat Club, we are proud to take the lead in celebrating and honoring the rich culture of our Indigenous communities in the Cordilleras. 💚

In preparation for this occasion, the Watwat Club, together with the Namuaw Performing Arts Guild, B.K.D. organization (Barkada Kontra Droga) and the Historical Society of BeNHS, implemented Project Ashal: A seminar-Workshop that started July 27 and 28 and culminated last August 1. The workshop gave the participants an opportunity to learn more about our cultural protocols in the use of cultural attires, dances, and the importance of protecting and respecting our Indigenous identity. The lessons and discussions from the workshop were not only meant to be heard, but also to be shown through our actions and performances.

During the celebration of the International Day for Indigenous Peoples, it started with a prayer from Rhon Atonen, the Vice-President of WATWAT Club. It was followed by a series of cultural dance performance by the members of the Watwat Club and B.K.D. organization. Due to limited time and human resources, only three dances were performed coming from the provinces of the Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Benguet. Through these presentations, we were able to show the beauty, uniqueness, and cultural identity of the region. For the community dance, we proudly performed the Ifugao Cultural Dance, allowing everyone to come together and celebrate the richness of our Indigenous heritage. 🌿✨

After the dances, the short program culminated with a meaningful prayer led by Sir Ambrocio Tulic, reminding us to be grateful for the opportunity to gather, celebrate, and honor the culture and traditions that connect us to our roots. This short program was witnessed by about 200 learners both from the Junior and senior high school levels.

This activity became more meaningful because we were able to demonstrate the value of Binnadang as we worked together, learn from one another, and share our culture with others. It reminded us that our traditions are not just something from the past. They are part of who we are, and they should continue to be respected, practiced, and passed on to the next generation.

We are thankful to everyone who became part of this activity, especially the officers and members of WATWAT Club, BKD and their advisers, Sir Carl Jay Otingey, Sir Ambrocio Tulic, Sir Benmar Atonen, Mam May Joy Tenias and Sir Ros Jansel Gualdo. This celebration showed us that when we work together, we can create something meaningful and help keep our culture alive. 🤍🌿

May we continue to learn, respect, protect, and celebrate Indigenous culture—not only every August 9, but every day.

‎After all our lectures, we gathered for the next step.On August 1, 2026, the WATWAT and BKD officers conducted Project ASHAL — our workshop on cultural dances. We learned and shared the traditional dances and instruments of Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga, and Ifugao.

PROJECT ASHAL l LECTURE DAY 2

From Benguet and Mountain Province, we moved on to Kalinga and Ifugao. On July 30, 2026, the WATWAT and BKD officers continued sharing the proper and respectful ways of wearing cultural attires — guided by the spirit of Binnadang and Adal.

We learned not just how to wear the clothes, but to understand and honor the story behind them. Sharing culture is how we keep it alive and strong.🤍

‎Last July 28, 2026, the WATWAT and B.K.D officers led and shared the proper and respectful ways of wearing cultural attire, starting with the traditions of Benguet and Mountain Province. Sessions were held during lunch break and after class to accommodate everyone.

‎Through Binnadang and joy of Adal, the lectures went smoothly,filled with learning,and fun moments for all!Culture lives on when we share it, and it grows stronger when we learn together.🤍

‎The WATWAT Club is pleased to announce Project BINGAY — or 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴.This is a Financial Assistance Program open to Senior High School students who meet all the requirements. It aims to provide financial support to deserving WATWAT Club members. 3 qualified beneficiaries will receive an initial allowance of ₱800.00 per month.

‎ 1.Must be an Active G12 WATWAT Club Member/Officer - (verified by officers)
‎
‎ 2. Good Moral Character- Endorsement from the class adviser/subject teacher.

‎ 3. General Average of 82% or higher - submit a copy of his/her SF9 or card
‎
‎ 4. Applicants must not be receiving other financial benefits from any government or private group or organization.

‎ 5.Project BINGAY application form and Certificate of Indigency from Barangay

‎ 6. Interview by the Club Adviser with the Club Officers

‎ 7. Monthly Allowance of P800 monthly starting July 2026-March 2027

‎8. Last day of Submission of documents is JULY 27,2026

‎If there are no qualified Grade 12 applicants by July 27, the application will be opened to active Grade 11 members.

Today, we proudly join the celebration of the 39th Cordillera Day, a meaningful occasion that honors the rich history, vibrant cultures, and enduring spirit of the Cordilleran people. This celebration reminds us of the courage and determination of our ancestors, whose sacrifices and collective efforts protected our ancestral lands, preserved our traditions, and strengthened our identity as one people.

Cordillera Day is more than just a celebration—it is a reminder of the importance of unity, respect, and cultural pride. It encourages us to appreciate the unique customs, languages, music, dances, arts, and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. These cultural treasures continue to inspire us to value our roots while embracing progress and working together for a better future.

As we celebrate this special day, let us honor the resilience and wisdom of the Cordilleran communities who continue to preserve their heritage despite the challenges of changing times. May we remain committed to protecting our culture, respecting our indigenous knowledge and traditions, and promoting peace, equality, and solidarity within our communities.

Let this occasion inspire every one of us, especially the younger generation, to learn more about our history, appreciate the richness of our identity, and become responsible stewards of our culture. ‎With grateful hearts, we celebrate the success of Project PAPANGOAN
‎It stands for Passionate Partnership for the Active Nourishment and Growth of the Next Leaders — as a meaningful rite of passage for the new leaders of Watwat Club — as we honor the guidance of those who came before us and welcome those who will lead next.
‎
‎Papangoan does not only refer to elders, but it also refers to former leaders and the new set of officers who are generous in sharing the lessons learned during their stint. Alongside this, we also held a seminar-workshop on preparing project proposals and accomplishment reports to help everyone better implement the plans of the club.
‎
‎Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our two former presidents Pia L. Sernadilla and Jian Arkane A. Tamulong for their dedicated service and inspiring leadership. As they officially passed the torch to our newly elected officers, they entrusted us to carry on the club’s mission with integrity, commitment, and passionate hearts.
